This week, our tuakana tamariki visited the Maritime Museum to see the Ngā Huhua exhibition.
Large projections, soundscapes, and a few interactive activities were a buffet, and our tamariki explored the museum with care and excitement.
The exhibition raises awareness of the impacts of human disruption and practices that have led to a very sick Hauraki Gulf and the areas around Auckland.
We need to educate ourselves and our tamariki about these issues, but more importantly, we need to understand how we can reduce our impact and support conservation efforts that will help our moana recover and survive for our tamariki mokopuna.
The rest of the museum was really interesting too.

Ngā mihi nui ki a Whaea Karen i tō whakaaro nui.

Ringaringa auaha.

Ngā ngākau kikī rawa. He nui ngā mahi toi i waihangatia e ngā tamariki mō te kirihimete. Nō roto mai i ngā mahi toi, i ngā mahi tahi, i te rere o ngā pohewa, ka kitea rawatia i ngā hua ki ngā pakitara katoa o tō tātou whare.

Ko te tuku mihi me te whakamānawa atu i ngā mahi katoa o te tau nei e whakatinanahia ana i ngā mātāpono o TPKMM te kaupapa matua o te rā nei, ka

Ko Te Puna Kōhungahunga Mana Motuhake ake nei. Meri Kirihimete ki a tātou katoa.

Hands busy, hearts full.

Our tamariki have been busy creating their own Kirihimete celebration. Through art, decorating, and shared moments of creativity, they worked with care, joy, and pride, making our Puna feel extra special.

Today is all about to acknowledge their growth and achievements throughout the year, to celebrate whānau, and to strengthen whanaungatanga, the relationships and connections that bind us together.

Every colour, texture, and decoration carries aroha and reflects the collective spirit of our Puna.

Meri Kirihimete from all of us.

Until the start of December, one of our mātua is organising a reading group for other mātua to come along and practice their pānui, whakawhiti kōrero.

It is a safe learning space where we read picture books and feel confident to then go home later to read them to our tamariki.

Every two weeks, our tamariki over three set off on a hīkoi to Maungawhau, walking nearly 4km together. It’s a journey of movement, connection, and discovery. As they climb, they strengthen their bodies, explore nature, and build deep relationships with their maunga and tīpuna. The hīkoi is filled with karakia, challenges, laughter, and learning — all grounded in kaupapa Māori. This is Te Puna Kohungahunga Mana Motuhake, where the land teaches, and tamariki thrive.

🦷✨ Have you had your mouth checked lately?

Here at Puna, our mokopuna had their dental check today — right on site!

We were lucky to welcome the Auckland Regional Dental Service van to our door 🚐💙. Our tamariki had their teeth checked, opened their mouths like mighty crocodiles 🐊, and the best part? No further visits needed!

Each child received a brand new toothbrush and toothpaste 🪥—and even better, they learnt how important it is to care for our tinana, our greatest taonga.

Ngā mihi to our awesome dental team and our brave little stars 🌟
