Congratulations to Sacred Heart College’s Frontmen, who are one of the twelve bands selected to compete in the Smokefreerockquest Auckland Central Regional Final, taking place on Friday 5 June at The Dorothy Winstone Centre.
The Regional Final will award the top three bands, alongside a range of special awards including Musicianship, Smokefree Best Vocals, Wright Family Foundation Best Song, and an APRA Lyric Award. Congratulations to former SHC student Samuel Mataele (‘25) on reaching the semi-finals of New Zealand’s most prestigious singing competition, the Kiri Te Kanawa Song Quest.
Samuel is the youngest person ever to achieve this milestone. A talented countertenor known for his rich vocal tone and musical artistry, he has already performed with groups including, The Handel Consort & Quire and the Auckland Choral Society, and has won several Auckland vocal competitions.
Keep an eye out for Samuel’s future performances — including his alto role in Messiah with the Auckland Choral Society in December 2026.

🇵🇹 Portugal Bound!
Congratulations to current SHC students Henry Moore, Sabastian Dunn (Year 13), Hugo Dougall and Tom McLean (Year 12), along with Old Boy Blaise van Heerden (Class of 2025), on their selection in the Water Polo New Zealand U18 Men’s team.
The team will travel to Spain and Portugal in June and July to compete at the 2026 World Aquatics Men’s U18 Water Polo Championship. Selected as part of a 14-player squad, the boys will take on the world’s best U18 teams from 20 countries.
We wish them every success as they represent New Zealand on the international stage.

And they’re off!
Year 10 students Ethan Firth, Noah Hillerby, Noah Love, Oscar Tainui-Hernandez and Charlie Vaughan headed away today for Spirit of Adventure Voyage .
Joining 40 students from around New Zealand, the boys will take part in five days of challenges designed to build confidence, teamwork and resilience — all away from the distractions of technology and everyday life.
Activities include 30-metre rigging, swimming, night sailing and team-building challenges. We wish them all the best for an unforgettable adventure!

Over the April school holidays, Sacred Heart students Reuben Cassidy, Alex Cooney, Zak Hammond and Louis Turner (Year 9) travelled to Brisbane with the NZ Storm composite team to compete in the Australian Schoolboys U14 Competition.
After an impressive tournament run, the team finished 4th overall out of 28 teams — an outstanding achievement on the Australian stage. Congratulations boys!

Huge Congratulations to our 1st XI Hockey team who secured a 2-1 win against St Kent's last night - in round 3 of the Premier Grade!!
Despite trailing 1-0 in the second quarter, the team remained tight-knit and focused, turning the game around in the final quarter with two quick goals from Matt Menezes (Year 13) and Ethan Cibulskis (Year 9).
Next Wednesday they take on King’s College at Lloyd Elsmore, 5:45pm.

Congratulations to Delan Johns (Year 7), who travelled to Brisbane in February to compete in the Oceania BMX Championships, where he achieved an outstanding result of a silver medal in the 12 Boys category, as well as 7th place in the 8–12 Boys Cruiser category.
During the April school holidays, Delan competed in Round 2 of the Australian National Series in Shepparton. He placed 4th in the 12 Boys category and achieved a silver medal in the 8–12 Cruiser category.
