Googlemaps have been mapping Parco Nazionale della Majella with Street View. Good images of the site of Campo PG 78/1 where hundreds of men were Prisoners of War in the summer of 1943. The mainly New Zealand and South African men worked in the local shale mines. If you are ever in central Italy a visit to this beautiful park is a 'must do'. https://goo.gl/maps/YVorivWMipM2

The 2015 Freedom Trail ended on 3 May. It commemorates the thousands of men who escaped from the POW camps in 1943 and the Italian people who provided assistance despite the threat to their own lives, families, property and businesses. Long may it be remembered.
This photo is of Sulmona where the 3-day trail begins, showing the Majella mountains over which many of the men escaped.
