Year 2 Students (7 years) recorded vocab bank after watching 3 minute National Geographic video on Turtle navigation and population decline. Students watched video, brainstormed vocab words with teacher and then wrote draft reports independently. Following on from this, under teacher demonstration, students highlighted the inclusion of vocab from brainstorm to check they had included appropriate language in their draft information reports. Also important to note - the teachers modelling book was taken away after instructions so the work produced was completely student generated.

The Learning Pit represents a students learning journey. Not all learning is easy but with support students can make it back out of the pit when difficulties arise.

Two of my students were very reluctant writers, with one just out right refusing to write anything. Support and guidance from me on how to put together a plan before writing to get their ideas down in a structured way provided the students with new found confidence.
