What a wonderful week celebrating Vaia*o o le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language Week)! 🇼🇸

Our tamariki enjoyed exploring Samoan language and culture through art, music, movement, stories, and kai. They learnt lanu (colours), numera (numbers), a*o o le vaia*o (days of the week), created siapo (tapa cloth) art, painted the fu‘a Samoa (Samoan flag), and sang traditional Samoan songs.

A special highlight was welcoming Poppa Mike, who shared stories about Samoa, his family, and Samoan traditions. Tamariki also enjoyed delicious Samoan kai made by Klay’s grandma including panikeke (Samoan pancakes), taro and chicken chop suey. We also baked yummy fa‘apapa (Samoan coconut bread).

It was a week filled with learning, culture, and connection as we celebrated the beauty of the gagana Samoa and culture together. Fa'afetai tele lava to all the ‘aiga who helped make this week so special for our tamariki and ngā whaea.

Nothing makes us happier than hearing that a child has settled in with confidence, happiness, and a sense of belonging.

We are so grateful to receive feedback like this from our families. Creating a calm, safe, and nurturing environment where children feel secure to explore, learn, and grow is at the heart of everything we do.

Thank you for trusting us to be part of your daughter's journey. 💛

Did you know?

At The Wildlings Early Years, our Montessori work mats are lovingly known as “mahi mats” 🌿 Each child independently chooses and unrolls a mat, creating a defined workspace for purposeful mahi — whether working alone or collaboratively with a small group.

In Montessori, floor work is deeply valued as it allows freedom of movement, supports whole-body engagement, and invites children to work comfortably with larger materials such as the counting beads, puzzles, and language activities. The mahi mat becomes a space of order, concentration, and respect, where each material has its place and the child can fully immerse themselves in their work cycle without interruption.

When their work is complete, children carefully roll and return the mat, fostering independence, responsibility, coordination, and care for their environment — beautiful foundations for lifelong learning ✨

Our tamariki love our sessions with Mindful movement for mana ! Through movement, play, and curriculum learning integrated with te ao Māori, tamariki build confidence, coordination, and connection in such a fun and engaging way. This week, our lovely Isla wowed us all with her amazing poi skills — ka mau te wehi! ✨
