Yesterday was a very special day for us at Love Heart.

Our very first Learning Lunch took place at Cellar 495 with Mike Henley, and honestly, it was everything we hoped this community could become.

What stood out most wasn’t just the incredible stories, insights, or conversations shared across the room — it was the atmosphere. People arriving not quite knowing each other, then slowly settling into conversation over lunch, sharing thoughts, asking questions, laughing together, and leaving with new connections made.

Love Heart was never just about “learning” in the traditional sense. It was created from the belief that people still deeply want connection, stimulation, conversation, and shared experiences — especially later in life, when those opportunities can quietly become fewer and further between.

A huge thank you to Mike Henley for sharing his stories, wisdom, and generosity with us, and to Cellar 495 for creating such a beautiful setting for our very first event.
And to everyone who attended — thank you for trusting us enough to be part of the beginning. Starting something new always comes with uncertainty, and seeing people embrace the idea with such openness meant more than we can properly express.

There are so many more lunches, workshops, adventures, courses, and experiences still to come — and if yesterday was anything to go by, we feel incredibly excited about the kind of community that’s slowly starting to grow around all of this.

Join us to analyse the complex structures of human communities, sociology, and politics. Hear from experts like Frances Valintine CNZM and Dr Dmitry Zavialov on topics ranging from Aotearoa's demographic future to how rhetoric shapes public perception.

The World of Music
Starting Wednesday 10 June at Symphonia Hall, Freemans Bay.
Trace the rich history and theory of sound — from classical composition to modern digital genres. Guided by leading musicians including Claire Caldwell and Godfrey De Grut, you'll explore everything from opera's development to the shift in complexity in contemporary music.

Creative Arts
Starting Monday 22 June at the Covert Theatre, Ponsonby.
Examine the evolution of human expression through visual arts, literature, film, and performance. Expert artists and directors like Dr Gabriel Reid and Janet Mazenier will take you behind the scenes of contemporary art events, cinematic craft, and the transition from a corporate career to full-time artist.

Each course runs from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and includes a tea and coffee break — the perfect time for robust conversations and building new friendships. No prior knowledge required, just a curious mind!
