In addition to the wonderful learning happening in the senior room, our junior class had also been learning about ANZAC Day and what it represents.

Room 1 had a wonderful visit from Diane Pankhurst, who shared the story of her Grandfather, who served during World War II as part of the railway construction team.

She shared excerpts from his diary, photographs of him and his time overseas, a very special pendant he had created from metal of a downed aircraft and sand from the desert, silk from a parachute used during the war and replicas of his war medals.

The children asked insightful questions and were very engaged in her presentation. A big thank you to Diane for sharing her time and story with us! We are so lucky to have such amazing support from our community who provide such rich learning opportunities for our students โค๏ธ

We are incredibly lucky to have such strong support from our community!

In the lead up to ANZAC Day, we had Andy Fox come in to speak to Room 2 about the incredible story of his grandfather Leslie Averill.

Room 2 had been looking into the history of Le Quesnoy, a town in Northern France that was liberated by the NZ Rifle Battalion on the 4th November 1918. This heroic act by the New Zealand soldiers, just before the end of the war, resulted in the surrender of the 700 German soldiers occupying the town.

The children were absolutely fascinated by Andyโ€™s story, and all the incredible artefacts he bought in for our students to look at and hold.

A huge thank you to Andy for his generosity in giving his time and effort to share his incredible family history, we are very grateful.

We love how our community come together to provide engaging opportunities for our children to make strong connections in their learning!
Thank you Andy! ๐ŸฆŠ

It was a privilege for our school to stand alongside our community this morning as we came together to remember and reflect.

ANZAC Day holds an important place in our national story, and it is something we believe is important for our young people to understand and carry forward. As we remember those who have served, we also look to the future with hope, encouraging our young people to carry forward the values that help build a caring, strong, and united community.

It was a privilege to be able to share the childrenโ€™s learning with our community today, Mrs Pugh and Mrs Fraser were very proud of how well our students represented our school.

We truly have the best staff at our school! We are so lucky to have a teaching team that are passionate and really care about our students and their learning.

The amazing Mrs Helen made this incredible Chinese Gold Miners CAKE ๐Ÿคฏ for Room 2 to celebrate the end of their unit. The children were so surprised and excited to have such a cool cake made for them!

Our teaching team are the BEST, and go above and beyond! Thank you Mrs Helen ๐Ÿ‘

Last term, Ms Hood taught an amazing unit on the history of Chinese Gold Miners in NZ. The Room 2 children did a huge amount of learning, and there was such high engagement in this topic. Some fantastic pieces of writing were produced, but the real stars of the show were these โœจ INCREDIBLE โœจ models of the Chinese Miners Huts. The children loved making these, donโ€™t they look fantastic?! Click on the photos and zoom in to see the detail in these models.

๐Ÿ“š HAIRY MACLARY + CREATIVITY ๐Ÿ“š

We love creativity at our school, and we love being inspired by amazing NZ Authors/Illustrators like Dame Lynley Dodd. Her books are filled with the most wonderful vocabulary, and it inspired our juniors to be authors and illustrators of their own writing.
Well done Room 1!

Ms Hood has had Room 2 captivated with a very engaging unit learning about the Gold Rush and the Chinese miners in NZ.

This has inspired some amazing โ€œGold miningโ€ play in the sandpit, and that combined with NEW Tonka machines has meant that the sandpit has been the place to be this week!

We love our school, what a fun place to learn and play! โค๏ธ
