There has been no certainty. Nothing we could hang our hat on. Here in NZ we are still waiting....waiting for borders to open, waiting for restrictions to ease, waiting for plans to be confirmed.

Having no certainty in our external reality, I think the smartest thing we can do is focus on ourselves internally.

We need to be certain of our strengths, certain of what we want, about the direction we are wanting to go in. Having an aura of certainty makes others feel safe.

People with certainty have the ability to live with passion, focus, purpose and persistence. They allow no doubt. They keep going until they can’t and then they get a new plan.

Setting a direction is the job of a leader - it does not mean than you cannot change direction - in fact its vital that you do. Being vulnerable and adaptable are also key strengths that sit nicely beside certainty.

We can only be certain of certain things. What are you certain of?

Are you certain that you offer a wonderful product or service?

Are you certain that you are surrounded by clever, dedicated people?

Are you certain that you have enough support so you can do your job without unnecessary stress?

Are you certain of what you need to achieve before the end of 2021?

Are you certain of what you want to achieve by the end of 2022?

Making a list of ‘my certainties’ is always useful in times of doubt. “What I know for sure” is what I head the page up. Counting my certainties allows me to be open to what is uncertain.

Being uncertain offers huge advantages. It allows us to be open, to be curious and to surrender to the conditions that we find ourselves in.

There are five weeks left in 2022. Take some time this week to plan what you need to achieve to seal up the year. Then comes the fun and possibility of a new year ahead!
