Hananao Tamari and Asuka Hyodo, two dedicated JICA volunteers from Japan, recently completed their Basic Nepali Language Course. The course was not just about grammar and vocabulary, it was a bridge to the heart of Nepali culture. Both Hananao and Asuka embraced every challenge with warmth, patience, and enthusiasm that inspired their instructors and fellow learners.
As part of their cultural immersion, Hananao and Asuka explored some of Nepal's most treasured historical and heritage sites. Walking through the ancient courtyards of Bhaktapur Durbar Squares, circumambulating the dome of Boudhanath Stupa, and standing in awe before the sacred Pashupatinath Temple - every step deepened their understanding of Nepal's rich spiritual and architectural legacy. At each site, they practiced their newly learned Nepali phrases with local guides and community members and the smiles they received in return said everything. 😊
This is the spirit of JICA - learning, connecting, and growing together. We are so proud of Hananao and Asuka, and we look forward to witnessing the wonderful contributions they will make to their host communities here in Nepal. Dhanyabad! ありがとう!

Among them, Dr. Jaya Raj Acharya—a renowned scholar, educationist, linguist, visiting professor at Harvard University, and former Nepalese ambassador to the UN—spoke to the participants about Nepal's political history, current issues, and international relations. It was the most interesting and notable session in the entire training program.

A dedicated group of nine volunteers from JICA Nepal successfully completed a month-long intensive Nepali language training course designed to enhance their language skills and cultural understanding. This immersive program aimed to equip the volunteers with the necessary tools to engage more effectively with the local community during their assignments.
On the final day of the training, a celebratory presentation was held at the JICA office. Each volunteer had the opportunity to showcase their progress by speaking for 15 minutes on a topic of their choice, reflecting their personal interests and the nature of their work in Nepal. This not only demonstrated their newly acquired language skills but also highlighted the diverse projects and experiences each volunteer was involved in.
At the end of the ceremony, each student was awarded a certificate in recognition of their hard work and commitment throughout the course. This achievement marks an important milestone in their journey, reinforcing their ability to contribute meaningfully to the communities they serve in Nepal.
