An update from our January 2017 trip to Nepal:
Over Christmas break, Hoosiers Helping Nepal returned to Sipapokhare village in Nepal to spend time with the families our organization provided homes for. A total of 40 homes were built by the funds we raised, as part of a broader program in collaboration with Mission Rebuild Nepal to construct nearly 1000 homes. Thank you to all of our donors, volunteers, and well-wishers for your generosity and support!

Due to the current blockade in Nepal, it has become extremely difficult to transport many materials, especially fuel, into the country. As a result, Hoosiers Helping Nepal is postponing its return to Nepal until February 2016, by which time we hope the political situation will have settled.

More than 600,000 homes and 8,000 schools have been destroyed by the major earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25, 2015. Dr. Prakash Karki and his team volunteered to go to the affected areas and offer people with medical supplies and free health check ups. They were able to help approximately 300 families in two of the majorly affected villages (Majhua and Melamchi)

Locally, we are trying to collect funds by organizing fundraising events such as Cook out in the Quad (https://www.facebook.com/events/1437402379888219/). Our future goal is to help people in Nepal with their housing situation. We are researching on secure and sturdy houses that can be made available for affected families. We are looking at different companies for the construction and analyzing what is feasible in Nepal.

The monsoon rain will make the ground soggy and with cold winter it is imperative to provide quick relief. Dr. Karki will be revisiting Nepal with much needed relief supplies like clothing for children and other basic necessities.

If you would like to donate or make any contribution, the details on how you can do so is in the About section of our page.
