SMD Graduates of 2016

Today, on the sacred anniversary of the birth of our beloved and late Kyabje Thrangu Rinpoche, we were blessed with the profound honor of offering mandala and prayers to His Eminence Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche at Benchen Monastery.

The previous Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche and our late Rinpoche shared a bond of rare depth—dear friends, companions in the golden days at Rumtek, and teachers to one another in ways only true spiritual brothers can be. To now find ourselves here, receiving the Rinchen Terzod from His Eminence Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche, surrounded by more than one hundred devoted monks and nuns from our monastery who continue to uphold this precious lineage, feels like an immeasurable and timeless blessing.

Today, the blessings were further magnified as all the students—nearly 6,000 gathered for the empowerment—joined their voices in the heartfelt chanting of the swift rebirth prayer for our late Rinpoche. The sound rose like a single vast offering, filling the space with devotion, longing, and unshakable faith.

May these teachings flourish unimpeded, and may we honor our cherished teachers not only through words of praise, but through the steady, luminous practice that keeps their wisdom alive in this world.

EXCELLENT SEE RESULTS - Congratulations to all our students for securing excellent marks in Secondary Education Examination (SEE). This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to your hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout the academic year. Your exceptional performance reflects your commitment to learning and the efforts you put into your studies.

The COVID-19 years were tough on everybody, especially students - at SMD, we managed to keep almost everyone in regular instruction. This year, after a year of regular classes, when the SEE (Class 10 results) was published, we can see SMDers performing in their natural range - we are getting back to normal.

To the graduates - Never forget the support and guidance extended by our kind founder, Thrangu Rinpoche. Always follow our lama’s aims and teachings. We all have come this far because of the kindness, generosity, and blessing of our Kind Root Guru.

Thrangu Rinpoche established SMD in 1987 to provide free education, housing, and full care for the children from the most vulnerable and remote Himalayan mountain villages of northern Nepal. Rinpoche aims to give Himalayan Children the tools to build a better future, so they can help their own people when they grow up. Rinpoche also wants us to preserve our own culture, language, and Buddhist way of life in the Himalayas. And so far many children from the Himalayas are having a brighter and more successful future, and numerous of our graduates have been helping and providing services in various underdeveloped villages.

As you move forward, continue to embrace the value of education and keep nurturing your thirst for knowledge. May your academic journey continue to be fulfilling and lead you to new heights of excellence. Always be kind and help those who are in need.

Teachers Day ~ You are the greatest and most generous teacher whom we have ever met in our lives. You have shown us the true path and have graciously provided us with all the needs and necessities that every child requires.
