Some children experience touch more intensely than others. Everyday sensations like certain clothes, food textures, messy play, or unexpected touch may feel uncomfortable or overwhelming. This is called tactile defensiveness a sensory processing difference where the brain reacts strongly to touch sensations.
These reactions are not “bad behavior.” They reflect how the nervous system processes sensory information. With understanding, sensory support, and therapeutic intervention, children can gradually feel safer, calmer, and more comfortable with touch in daily life.

Wall climbing activity was provided within an Ayres Sensory Integration framework to deliver rich proprioceptive and vestibular input in the context of an adaptive response. The activity supported postural control, bilateral integration, praxis, motor planning, body awareness, and gravitational security. Climbing against resistance promoted activation of proximal muscles, core stability, and improved organization of sensory input while enhancing attention, regulation, and confidence in movement.🙏
