One year ago today, on Loktantra Diwas, we set out to build something.

Civic Space Nepal was founded to strengthen democracy through critical thinking, dialogue, and education.

Today, we turn one.

Over the past year, in collaboration with Debate Network Nepal and through Tarkashala, we’ve run debate and critical thinking programs across a dozen plus institutions and launched Tarkashala Academy.

It was also a proud milestone for us to finally initiate Nepal Election Debates conducting our first pilot debate and moving towards institutionalizing electoral debates in Nepal.

We look forward to building on this.

We’re grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.

Congratulations to Debate Network Nepal (DNN) on 13 years of an incredible journey.

You’ve touched countless lives, empowered young minds, and played a defining role in strengthening debate culture in Nepal as the national debate body of the country.

We’re grateful for the partnership, from Electoral Debates to Tarkashala and Debate is Cool, and the shared work in creating spaces for meaningful dialogue.

It’s inspiring to see many former debaters now stepping into leadership and public roles - a true reflection of your impact.

As the academic year comes to a close, we’ve been reflecting on our journey.

We worked with Creative Academy and the Creative Debate Club to organize their intra-school debate tournament earlier this year. The tournament was a part of our Debate is Cool annual program, run in collaboration with Debate Network Nepal.

This felt like a meaningful milestone in the debate journey of the school and the club, and it was genuinely rewarding to see students perform with such confidence and enthusiasm. We’re glad to have been part of creating and supporting spaces like this over time.

Through Debate is Cool, an annual school based debate mentorship program by Tarkashala under Civic Space Nepal, we continue working towards building stronger cultures of thinking and dialogue among young learners.

We look forward to expand our programs to more schools this year.

We are excited to begin our new partnership with Aarambha Sanskar, Kathmandu through the Debate is Cool program, implemented by Civic Space Nepal (CSN) under , in collaboration with . This initiative reflects the school’s growing commitment to building a strong foundation of debate and critical thinking through structured classroom activities and dedicated learning spaces.

As part of this new collaboration, our trainers will work closely with the school to establish and mentor its debate club. Students will receive focused guidance, regular practice opportunities, and support that prepares them to participate in both national and international championships. We will also assist teachers in integrating debate based activities into their classrooms so that students can develop strong analytical and communication skills throughout their daily learning experience.

We look forward to engaging with the enthusiastic community of Aarambha Sanskar as we work together to nurture debate and critical thinking as important elements of school culture. This partnership will help students grow in confidence and develop the skills needed to succeed on larger platforms in the future.
