Recreating old trend

The government and representatives of several Hindu organizations have reached a 13 point agreement in Janakpur following talks led by Home Minister Sudan Gurung at the District Administration Office in Dhanusha. The agreement includes a commitment to hold an all party discussion within three months on whether Nepal should be declared a Hindu nation.

The agreement also covers religious and social harmony, including controlling weapons and provocative activities at religious sites, limiting loudspeaker use, keeping records of people staying at religious institutions, monitoring foreign nationals, and taking legal action against religious, communal, or racial hatred spread through social media. Authorities will also review cases linked to the Dewanganj incident in Sunsari and arrange treatment for people injured during protests.

The two sides further agreed to review concerns over citizenship distribution, examine the role and legal basis of religious commissions, protect citizens taking part in the movement, and monitor funds received by madrasas, mosques, and other religious institutions to ensure financial transparency and legal compliance.
