Information about situation of Clouded Leopard in Nepal:
Neofelis nebulosa (mainland clouded leopard) have been ranging throughout Himalayan foothills of Nepal since long time. The assessment study of the presence of Clouded leopard have not been thoroughly done so far, although few pilot studies are being done quite a few times. The species is protected by the law of Nepal and any illegal trade o
r poaching of the animal is highly restricted. Though, due to less research about the species distribution, the law enforcement and protection are not being very effective. There is a need for research about the species habitat, ranges, population size distribution, and many other related. By bringing out the effort to conserving this wonderful cat, we will conserve many other walks of ecosystem it shares with other animals. Nepal, being the west-most range of global clouded leopard habitat, the study should be done properly and its need has become most important as of today. Let us hope we could conserve these beautiful creature and not bring out any actions that would harm them.
