Children with ASD may touch themselves to calm their nervous system or meet sensory needs. It is not always bad behavior or acting out. Many children cannot express stress or overwhelm with words, so they seek comfort through pressure, movement, or sensory input. The behavior is often a sign of an unmet sensory need. Don’t just focus on stopping the behavior. Try to understand the child’s sensory or emotional need underneath it.🙏
