Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his 26-day hunger strike, which he began in support of students protesting the alleged NEET UG paper leak. He ended his fast in the presence of BJP National President and Union Minister J.P. Nadda, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, and senior members of the Leh Ladakh Apex Body.
In a post on X, Wangchuk said that 65 Members of Parliament from various political parties had appealed to him to call off the hunger strike. He explained that the decision followed extensive discussions and concerns that the ongoing situation could escalate into violence. He also announced that he would soon release a detailed video explaining the discussions and conditions behind his decision, while urging supporters to remain calm and ensure that the movement stays peaceful.
Students have been staging protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for the past month over the alleged NEET UG question paper leak. They are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Wangchuk joined the protest by observing a 26-day fast in solidarity with the students and their demands.
