Communicative approach to language
teaching ???
Our ELT Curriculum developed by the curriculum
Development Centre is based on the principles of
communicative approach. The main aim of this
approach is to develop learner's communicative
competence in language. Communicative
competence means not only the ability to apply
the grammatical rules of language in order to
form grammatically correct sentences but also
the knowledge to use these rules in appropriate
context or real life situations. Actually this
approach came into existence in reaction to
grammar based approaches such as Aural- oral,
Audio- lingual approach. CLT is one of the
dominant approaches in the field of ELT today.
There are different/many(?) language functions in
our school level curriculum like: ordering,
congratulating, requesting, describing , expressing
likes and dislikes, etc, which are frequently used
in our daily life when we communicate to others.
The CLT aims to teach such language functions
to the students.
An American Sociolinguist, Dell Hymes, (1972)
who introcuced the term Communicative
Competence argued that language is a basic
means of communication and successful
communication through language requires much
more than linguistic competence( Chomsky,
1957). This ability is what has been referred to as
" Communicative Competence" . According to Dell
Hymes , a learner who acquires communicative
competence acquires both knowledge and ability
for language use in terms of:
a. Whether( and to what degree) something is
formally possible.
b. Whether( and to what degree) something is
feasible.
c. Whether ( and to what degree) something is
appropriate in relation to a context in which it is
used and evaluated.
d. Whether( and to what degree) something is in
fact done.
So, Communicative approach to language
teaching is to develop the above mentioned skills
(communicative competence) to a language
learner.
The important line regarding the communicative
approach is: "The primary concern of this
approach is how language is used in
communication and the teaching materials are
authentic and based on notional- functional
syllabus. "

Musical therapy is given to the student of our school . They were under the tarpoulin feeling hot although happy and hope, for a moment they had forgotten their fear,i can say because I observed their activities during the session. Hope they will be as before earthquake. And requested to pray and help for school and students .

Teaching aids and materials.
Simply speaking, all the materials that can be
used by teachers in classroom situation to
facilitate learning are called teaching aids. They
bring life in the class and assist to create the
permissive environment for learning and teaching.
Teaching aids show how energetic,
active,updated,innovative a teacher is in his/her
subject matter.An active teacher should enter the
classroom with teaching aids to fulfill the aim and
requirement of the planned lesson.
Let's have a cursory glance on what experts say
about it.
" Everythin belonging or brought into the

"Teaching aids are supplementary devices by
which the teacher through the utilization of more
than one sensory channels is able to clarify
establish and correlate concepts, interpretations,
and appreciations." ---Mckown and Roberts
Teaching aids and materials make the memory of
the children strong and stable. They are really
important to fulfill the national and levelwise
goals of education . Curriculum Development
Centre anticipates all the teachers to use
teaching aids and materials in their classroom.
So, we can further say teachind aids are the good
friends of a good teacher. They can be of different
types: Display devices like chalk board,pocket
chart, visual materials like realia,pictures, Audio
materials like Radio, Tape recorder, Audio- visual
materials like TV,films and Supplementary
materials like Songs , rhymes etc.
Oh !!! Why not to look at it !!!
Importance of teaching aids and materials
A= Arouse curiosity
I= increse the students experience
D= Decrese teacher talk time
S= Support to lessen the burden of the teacher
M= Make learning learnable and meaningful
A= Aid to memory by involving many senses of
the students
T= try to make the practice and drill more
realistic and effective
E= Emotions and feelings can also be presented
R= real situation can be brought / realistic and
effective classroom.
I =Instructions are given through them
A= Awaken the new desires and interests
L= lively situation can be made for presentation
and practice
S= Save the time of teaching difficult matters.
