🙏 INTRODUCTION TO THE ABHIDHAMMA – VIPASSANĀ NEPAL RETREAT 2026
Under the guidance of Sayadaw U Janakābhivaṃsa
On the sacred land of Nepal – where the Bodhisatta was born in Lumbinī Garden more than 2,600 years ago – the Abhidhamma – Vipassanā Nepal Retreat 2026 will be held from 7 June to 6 July at Dhammadayada, Nepal, under the compassionate guidance of Sayadaw U Janakābhivaṃsa.
The retreat is a precious combination of pariyatti (theoretical study of the Dhamma) and paṭipatti (practice of the Dhamma):
🌿 Pariyatti – Abhidhamma: Each day, Sayadaw will expound the essential points of the Abhidhamma – the profound analytical teaching on consciousness (citta), mental factors (cetasika), materiality (rūpa), and Nibbāna – helping meditators clearly understand the nature of mind and matter (nāma–rūpa) as a firm foundation for meditation practice.
🌿 Paṭipatti – Vipassanā (Insight Meditation): Meditators will practise Vipassanā directly under Sayadaw's guidance, with personal interviews, observing the true nature of arising and passing away in body and mind, gradually developing the insight that clearly sees the three characteristics: impermanence (anicca), suffering (dukkha), and non-self (anattā).
Sayadaw U Janakābhivaṃsa is a venerable Elder renowned for his profound mastery of the Abhidhamma and his experience in guiding Vipassanā meditation in the Pa-Auk tradition, having mentored many generations of meditators both at home and abroad. His teachings are simple, clear yet profound, and always imbued with loving-kindness (mettā).
Held amidst the serene mountains and forests of Nepal, with interpretation provided in English – Vietnamese – Nepali, the retreat offers a rare opportunity for meditators to:

Learn the Abhidhamma directly from a deeply learned Master
Practise meditation diligently in a pure environment in the homeland of the Buddha
Cultivate sīla – samādhi – paññā, sowing wholesome seeds on the path to liberation
