Department of Environmental Engineering (DoENE), Kathmandu University, proudly congratulates Lokesh Sapkota on the successful defense of his PhD thesis titled “Natural Attenuation of Physicochemical Parameters of Landfill Leachate in Different Soil Textures Using the Soil Column Method.”The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Rajendra Joshi, Dr. Bikash Adhikari and Dr. Anish Ghimire.

With this achievement, he becomes the first scholar from DoENE to successfully defend a PhD and the third PhD graduate from the Environmental Engineering program at Kathmandu University.

The Department is proud to recognize this important academic and research accomplishment and his contribution to the field of Environmental Engineering.

The Lund University–Kathmandu University Summer School continues to provide an excellent platform for interdisciplinary learning, research, and global collaboration, strengthening academic partnerships while promoting innovation, cultural exchange, and sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.
As part of the Summer School program, Associate Professor Dr. Bikash Adhikari, P.Eng., from the Department of Environmental Engineering, Kathmandu University, delivered an engaging lecture on "Waste Management in Nepal: Challenges, Practices & Future Opportunities" to a group of visiting students from Sweden. The session highlighted Nepal's solid and liquid waste management landscape, including the environmental challenges of the Bagmati River, current policies, infrastructure developments, and future opportunities for sustainable waste management. The interactive discussion fostered cross-cultural learning and reinforced Kathmandu University's commitment to advancing global partnerships and environmental sustainability.

First-year students of B.E. in Environmental Engineering successfully completed the Final Project Defense for course ENVE 114: Environmental Engineering Project.
The students demonstrated their creativity and engineering knowledge by presenting some working and demonstrative models focused on environmental engineering challenges.

Third-year students of the Department of Environmental Engineering, Kathmandu University visted Dhulikhel Trauma Center Construction Site as part of the ENVE 315: Design of Engineering Structures course.
During the visit, students gained practical insights into the structural components of a reinforced concrete building. They also observed the hospital building service systems (plumbing, sewerage, and firefighting), construction site safety, and environmental management practices such as water supply, cement storage, dust control, and construction waste management.

We sincerely thank Himalayan Builders and TODA Corporation for facilitating the site visit and for their valuable cooperation in making this learning experience possible. Experiences like these bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and professional engineering practice, preparing our students for real-world challenges.
