The phases of the Moon are the different shapes of the Moon we see from Earth due to its changing position around the Earth.

Main phases of the Moon (in order):

1. New Moon – Moon is not visible

2. Waxing Crescent – Thin crescent appears

3. First Quarter – Half of the Moon is visible

4. Waxing Gibbous – More than half is visible

5. Full Moon – Entire Moon is visible

6. Waning Gibbous – Light starts decreasing

7. Last (Third) Quarter – Half of the Moon is visible

8. Waning Crescent – Thin crescent before New Moon

These phases repeat every about 29.5 days (one lunar month).
