Express Entry quick facts, from January 1st to April 1st, 2015:
• Launch date: January 1st, 2015
• First draw from the pool: January 31, 2015
• Most recent draw from the pool: March 27, 2015
• Minimum CRS points required for selection in any one draw: 453 (March 27th draw)
• Largest number of invitations to apply issued in any one draw: 1,637 (March 27th draw)
• Canada will conduct up to 25 draws this year to meet its immigration targets of 1,85,000 new economic immigrants under the 2015 immigration plan;
• Canadian government has issued only 6,851 invites until the end of March 2015. Each of whom had 453+ points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), received an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
• Future draws are expected to occur more frequently and the government is expected to issue much greater number of invitations.
• Future draws are expected to select candidates with high points for human capital factors under the CRS, and who may not necessarily have a job offer or provincial nomination;
The good news for candidates who have not yet been issued an invitation to apply is that the required CRS score has decreased with each new draw. With CIC having selected a number of candidates without job offers or provincial nominations in recent weeks, this provides real incentive for all those who did not apply yet to make efforts and file their application into pool.
Canada aims to select tens of thousands of new immigrants through Express Entry in 2015. Therefore, it isn’t too late for you to apply!

the key features of the Canada Express Entry Program:
• Express Entry uses electronic profiles to highlight a person’s best attributes including education, work experience and language skills, among others.
• Candidates are chosen on a point based system and upto 500 points are attributed to a candidate for their education, work experience and language skills. Spouses will also be considered on such features. Candidates with validated job offer will be allotted 600 points.
• Experience in range of occupations such as IT, Engineers, Healthcare, Trades, Finance, Accountants, Teachers, Sales, Marketing, Insurance, Public Relations, HR and Customer Service professionals amongst many others are eligible to apply, as they want to maximise the number of people applying.
• All these profiles are looked at under the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program or Canadian Experience Class and then put into a pool of candidates.
• An individual will wait in this pool until given an invitation to apply for permanent residence
• Once invited, an individual has 60 days to submit an application for permanent residence.
• A job offer is not a requirement to get an ITA. But applicants will have to register with the Job Bank in Canada as part of the process.

Canada welcomes first permanent residents under Express Entry
Express Entry working to make top international talent permanent residents
April 10, 2015 — Toronto — Changes to Canada’s economic immigration system are proving successful in selecting people needed in Canada’s economy and giving them permanent resident status quickly. Just three months after the launch of Express Entry, Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander welcomed three of the first Express Entry candidates to become Canadian permanent residents—Emma Hughes, Yaoyao (Anita) Zheng and Xin (Frank) Zhao.
Hughes is a successful candidate from Ireland who applied under the Federal Skilled Worker stream. She now works as an application scientist for EcoSynthetix in Burlington, Ontario.
Zheng and Zhao were both international students who applied under the Canadian Experience Class. Zheng came to Canada from China and in 2012 she graduated in Supply Chain Management from Humber College. Today, she works as a dispatch logistician at DMA Logistics in Mississauga, Ontario.
Zhao also came to Canada from China as an international student and graduated in 2003 from Mohawk College in business accounting. Zhao is currently employed at Wing on New Group Canada, in Markham, Ontario.
Launched in January, Express Entry is a new way of managing applications for Canada’s key economic immigration programs. Candidates create an online profile and express their interest in coming to Canada permanently. Candidates who meet the minimum criteria are accepted into the pool and ranked according to various factors, including language proficiency, education and work experience. Each is a leading indicator of one’s likelihood of integrating fully and quickly into Canadian society and making an optimal contribution to the economy.

FIFTH ROUND OF INVITATION:
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has issued its fifth round of Invitations to Apply for Permanent Residence, after completing a drawing of candidates from the new Express Entry immigration application management system. A total of 1620 invitations were issued to applicants with scores of 481 points or higher. This is the first round of invitations that included candidates not currently holding a job offer supported by a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) certificate.
Background:
Express Entry is Canada’s new immigration application management system. Applicants are awarded up to 600 points based on a number of factors meant to assess their ability to succeed in Canada, including age, language skills, education and work experience. An additional 600 points are awarded for holding a job offer supported by a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment.
Since inception, the program has elicited criticism that the comprehensive scoring system unfairly disadvantages international students and other LMIA-exempt foreign nationals. Canada aims to land 185,000 Permanent Residents in 2015. Thus far, the program has issued fewer than 6,000 invitations.
The LMIA/PNP Requirement:
This is the first draw in which candidates without an LMIA or PNP certificate have received an invitation to apply. It is not yet known what effect increased program participation, including provincial participation, will have on the qualifying score threshold.
In order to qualify in the most recent draw without an LMIA or PNP certificate, a candidate would require a graduate degree from a post-secondary institution, significant Canadian and foreign work experience and excellent language skills in either English or French.
Despite a lower qualifying score for this round of invitations, employers wishing to support a foreign national in obtaining Permanent Residence should know that the only way to guarantee an invitation is to secure a positive LMIA or PNP certificate.

Quebec Minister of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusiveness, Kathleen Weil, stated that the current Liberal government was ready to launch a “big reform” of relations between new immigrants and Quebec society, a process that will include the revision of Quebec’s immigration law. “What I want to arrive at is an immigration system based on the Canadian model,” said Ms Weil, who added that the existing laws in Quebec are “really outdated”. It is thought that the government of Quebec will be watching closely how the federal government’s new Express Entry immigration selection system performs. Express Entry, which came into operation on January 1, 2015, allows the federal and provincial governments (except Quebec), as well as Canadian employers, to select immigrants from a pool of skilled candidates who have each made an expression of interest in immigrating to Canada. Quebec has held jurisdiction over its own immigration policy since 1991, using a points-based system that has been in place since then to select newcomers. Ms Weil has said that every aspect of Quebec’s immigration policy will be up for discussion during the consultation, including the number of immigrants welcomed annually, the selection process and favoured countries of origin, the importance of knowing French before arriving, French language courses, the recognition of training undertaken abroad, regionalization, the sharing of common values, and whether Quebec should adopt a management system similar to the federal system. Fifty stakeholders are expected to participate in public consultation hearings over the coming weeks on the future of immigration to Quebec. A later consultation will also be held on two specific aspects of immigration: the number of immigrants Quebec wants to welcome every year and their countries of origin. From 2009 to 2013, one immigrant in five came from either Algeria or Morocco. Provincial labour market needs are expected to be a primary concern throughout. Another concern is drawing immigrants to towns and regions outside the greater Montreal area, which has attracted the vast majority of immigrants in recent decades. With a strongly federalist Liberal majority government having a mandate with years left to run, it appears likely that Ms Weil and the current government will have the time and support necessary to make considerable changes to Quebec’s immigration policy.

A Land of Opportunities
Do you want to build a new life in Canada? More than 250,000 new permanent residents come to our country each year. The Government of Canada invests millions of dollars every year to help these newcomers settle into their new lives in Canada, and to ensure that all newcomers can benefit from the high quality of life we enjoy in Canada.
Canada is not only a great place to work, but it's also a great place to raise a family, with safe and secure communities, protected by our national police force and many other law enforcement agencies across the country. Our crime rates are so low that the OECD Better Life Index 2014 ranked Canada 9.7 out of 10 for safety. Canada is also listed by the OECD as the number one world leader when it comes to acceptance and tolerance of minorities. As a society, we embrace multiculturalism and are open to and respectful of different cultures and ideas.
Another key reason that immigrants from around the world choose Canada is because the country has a strong and stable economy, with lots of opportunities for skilled workers.
Did you know that Canada:
Is expected, by both the International Monetary Fund and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, to be among the strongest growing economies in the G-7 over this year and next.
is ranked by Bloomberg as the second-best place in the world for doing business.
has the most stable banking system in the world - for the seventh consecutive year - according to the World Economic Forum.
has the second highest standard of living in the G-20, as measured by GDP per capita.
has a low annual inflation rate, which means you and your family can benefit from reasonable cost of living.
