The larva of Citrus lemon butterfly captured showing a fork like unique organ called osmeterium which is everted upon disturbance secreting irritant volatiles as a defensive mechanism. This organ is unique to the larva of insects under family Papilionidae (Order : Lepidoptera). The eversion and retraction of the osmeterium are dependent on the internal pressure generated by the haemolymph.
