Among the various traditional dances and legends associated with Navadurga, the dance depicting the gaze of Shwet Bhairab holds significant importance. A particularly captivating performance is in the evening dance also known as गाँ तोकेगु ( "snatching the shawl"), which enacts the story of Shwet Bhairab gazing upon the goddess Mahakali while she is bathing. The narrative behind this dance conveys the lesson that it is improper to gaze upon a woman while she is bathing, regardless of the nature of the look.

Through this painting, I have attempted to depict just a single moment from the story.This painting depicts a scene from the Shwet Bhairab festival or dance. In the artwork, Shwet Bhairab is clad in a red खास्टो (shawl) that symbolizes a cloud; the participants in the festival are portrayed as clouds within the narrative. Hidden amidst these clouds, Shwet Bhairab watches Mahakali as she bathes. The painting captures a specific moment of the dance where Shwet Bhairab darts from one cloud to another to avoid being spotted whenever Mahakali glances upward or to the sides during her bath.

Along the red border, blue cloud-like human figures are depicted. The scattered red patterns symbolize splashes of blood, adding to the dramatic intensity of the scene. The scattered red patterns represent the blood spilled when Goddess Mahakali slew the demon Sumeru.

The painting reveals a brief moment from the traditional legend in which Mahakali bathes to cleanse the blood from her body after the demon's death, bringing this ancient narrative to life through visual art.
