Now, it is imperative for all stakeholders to unite in expediting a just and fair transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. This involves putting an end to the expansion of oil and gas, and halting funding and licensing for new coal, oil, and gas projects. Additionally, the goal is to achieve net-zero electricity in developed countries by 2035 and in other regions by 2040, while striving to ensure affordable electricity access for every individual across the globe.
UN Secretary-General Guterres has emphasized the need for bold and ambitious national emissions reduction targets from all G20 members.
We stand at a crucial crossroads with several pivotal opportunities lying ahead. In the Africa Climate Summit, the G20 Summit, the UN Climate Ambition Summit, and COP28, we have a chance to make a difference.
