We must reduce the competition between human food and animal fees by increasing the use of by-products and residues in animal feed. Research shows that we can increase the current global food supply by up to 13% in terms of kcal and 15% in terms of protein content. This is on our agenda working with our excellent feed suppliers.

Transforming our food system is not only about production, but the consumer side is also equally important.
For the desired increase in fish consumption, recipes for delicious and convenient dishes can work. The trigger is higher for seaweed, where most people need to learn how to prepare seaweed and kelp dishes, not at least how to gather seaweed and kelp along the shore and to clean it.

Cermaq Chile had a successful participation at the new Seafood Show in Sao Paulo which brings together the main fish producers in Latin America and has more than 70 exhibitors.

Our new feeding handbook makes great difference.
Good feeding practices are key to Cermaq in terms of biological and financial results, and to ensure sustainable fish farming. One might think that we can find “the-one-and-only” optimal way to feed salmon. However, there is no “one-size-fits-all”. We have used our global competence to identify the differences that decide what is optimal feeding depending on multiple factors and in a variety of situations, which is truly local adaptation.
Over the last year, our strong global and local teams have developed common guidelines for feeding, including:
- How to set up the feeding system from feed storage to feed entering the cage.
- How and when to feed to ensure that feed is not lost during the feeding process
- How to achieve the best growth results and therefore the best production result
The feeding manual is now successfully being used in our operations in Chile and implementation in Norway and Canada is in the planning.
