They know that cattle eat other native plants (including shrubs and trees) in the rangelands, but we don't know what! This project, "Decoding cattle diets in Northern Australia: eDNA insights for methane mitigation in rangelands" will use eDNA techniques to understand what cattle are eating, and what this means for greenhouse gas estimates.

What they are looking for:

Physics-Informed Modelling and Sensing Algorithms for Environment Reconstruction in 6G ISAC Networks

The project focuses on developing physics-informed modelling approaches and sensing algorithms to reconstruct environments using radio signals in future 6G ISAC networks. The research will involve signal processing, wireless propagation modelling, and machine learning methods for sensing and environment reconstruction.

The Engineering Systems Design (ESD) pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has one PhD opening with full scholarship on probabilistic privacy for learning via encoded data and algorithm co-design.

Modern AI systems rely on large-scale learning algorithms operating on sensitive data. In domains such as healthcare, finance, and critical infrastructure, both the training data and the learned model parameters must remain private.

Most existing approaches rely on differential privacy, which introduces irreversible noise and often reduces accuracy, or on cryptographic methods, which can be computationally expensive.

🔬 Research question

Can stochastic encoding mechanisms, learning algorithms, and decoding/extraction procedures be jointly designed so that privacy is enforced probabilistically while accurate models can still be recovered?

The research investigates how distributions used for stochastic data encodings, learning dynamics, and recovery mappings can be co-designed to limit information leakage while preserving the performance of learning algorithms.

🌍 Research internships

Research internships of 3–6 months may be envisioned with collaborators at
