Gjestfriheten is a 17 double bedroom mansion located at the water’s edge of the 70 km long Randsfjord. Just 65-70 minutes from Oslo by car and 50 minutes from the international Oslo airport, the property has it’s own beach and jetty. The original house is over a hundred years old and dates back to before there were roads in the area, all traffic was by boat or horse and cart. First functioning as a post office, bakery and bed and breakfast, the house was upgraded and extended around 1949 by Ruth Matre and was given the name Fredly in it's role as a convalescent home. In the 1950’s Fredly was sold and renamed Skarsjø by it's new owner diakon Martin Gravdal who invested his life's work (34 years) in the project together with his wife and twin sister. In the 1990s Skarsjø was sold to Oslo Bymisjon and for a period of years served as a conference centre and retreat for management and monks before it changed hands again around 2000 and renamed Gjestfriheten Fjordstue by it's new owners the Fagereng family. From 2000 – 2009 Gjestfriheten Fjordstue has been popular for both Norwegians and tourists as a bed and breakfast lodge, conference center and place to celebrate weddings, birthdays and confirmations. The people of Hadeland are well acquainted with Gjestfriheten and most of them cherish happy memories of attending celebrations there. It is situated in a magical and metaphorical place by river and fjord. Where river and fjord meet special health promoting and healing energies are experienced. Hence the earlier use as a convalescent home. Gjestfriheten has a smaller house “River Cottage” which is situated at the edge of the river and fjord with private beach and pier. The river runs under part of the property and flows into the fjord right in front of the house. The fish wait here to receive the nutrients brought from the river. Indeed, it is possible to fish for trout and pike from the balcony! Hadeland and Randsfjord scores high in Norwegian cultural history. Historians tell that the Viking King Halfdan the Black often rode his horse on the frozen Randsfjorden during the winter months and he ended his days by going through the ice at a spot very close to Gjestfriheten. There are numerous Viking relics near Gjestfriheten in the area of Hadeland. Spectacular sunsets add to the beauty and fascination of Gjestfriheten. It is an approved conference center and hotel though since our acquisition 2 years ago has served as an educational training retreat for students at The Paradigm Academy. Trainings include Health Promotion Health Coaching, Coaching and Neuro Linguistic Programming.
