Our Years 1 and 2 students swapped the classroom for a local apiary this week, discovering the fascinating world of bees.

After watching a performance of The Honey Thief, they pulled on beekeeper suits and headed out to the hives to see where bees live and work. They learned about the different roles within a colony, how bees make honey and beeswax, and even how a bee’s dance helps others find the best flowers. And the sweetest part of the day? Tasting the honey!

Another wonderful hands-on experience bringing learning to life beyond the classroom.

We’re delighted to see OIS highlighted positively in Dagens Næringsliv this week, as the latest PISA results bring renewed attention to learning and academic achievement in Norway.

The article highlights OIS students’ consistently strong performance in the International Schools’ Assessment (ISA), with results in mathematics, reading and writing ranking among the top percentiles in Europe.

OIS Board member Celina Midelfart also shares some of the approaches that support a strong learning environment at OIS, from our focus on reading and thoughtful use of technology to strong teachers and high levels of parental engagement.

It’s wonderful to see our students’ achievements and the work taking place across OIS recognised as part of this wider conversation about learning and education.

Our IB1 students are back from an action-packed week in Lofoten, with surfing, hiking, cold plunges and plenty of time outdoors.

With most new to surfing, everyone took to the waves at Unstad Arctic Surf, home to the world’s northernmost surf school. Away from the surfboards, students explored the spectacular Lofoten landscape, hiked to beautiful Kvalvika, braved cold plunges and took part in a beach clean-up.

A particular highlight was meeting adventurer and filmmaker of Nordfor Sola, and hiking to the cabin he built from materials found on the beach.

It was a week that challenged students to try new things, step beyond the familiar and come away with some unforgettable shared experiences. As always, a huge thank you to our wonderful hosts.

Could there be trolls in the forests around OIS? Year 2 headed into the woods this week to find out.

They searched for trolls, built shelters from natural materials and transformed themselves with ferns, moss and blueberries before acting out The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Along the way, there were berries to pick, toadstools to identify and even some moose droppings to investigate!

Back in the classroom, the children used materials collected to create sourdough troll faces, continuing an experience that brought Norwegian culture, creativity, literacy and learning about the natural world all together.

And proving that, with a little imagination, trolls aren’t so difficult to find after all!

Our annual Welcome Lunch and Family Run brought new and returning families together for a great afternoon in the sunshine.

After students and parents took in the family run, there was time to relax over lunch, enjoy live performances and reconnect with familiar faces and get to know some new ones.

A lovely celebration of our community, and a big thank you to everyone who joined us and to the many volunteers who helped make it possible.

Today, OIS joins people across Norway in marking the passing of His Majesty King Harald V.

Our school includes many Norwegian families, alongside families from around the world, and we recognise this as an important moment for the country and for many within our community.

We extend our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and all those mourning the passing of King Harald.

And we’re back!

What a fantastic first week back! There has been a real buzz around school as we welcomed everyone for the start of a new school year.

Our new students have quickly settled into OIS life, helped by the familiar faces of student ambassadors, teachers and fellow students they met during last week’s induction.

Across Primary and Secondary, classrooms, corridors and playgrounds have been full of energy as students meet new teachers and classmates, catch up with friends and get stuck into the new school year.

Parents have been part of the action too, reconnecting over morning coffee, learning more about OISPA and discovering the wide range of After School Activities on offer this year.

A brilliant start to the year – and so good to have the OIS community back together again!

We’re almost ready to welcome back all our OIS families!

This week, our newest students and families had an early introduction to OIS ahead of Monday.

Secondary students took part in a two-day orientation, finding their way around, meeting classmates and teachers, and hearing about school life from our student peer ambassadors. In Primary, students and parents visited their classrooms, met their teachers and connected with other families.

We hope they now have some familiar faces to look out for and feel a little more at home as they begin their OIS journey.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday!
