COP25 participants left Madrid, hoping to meet again in one year with a clear plan on how to cut down CO2 emissions. A year later than expected, it is finally time for world leaders to gather in Glasgow for COP26!

From the 31st of October till the 12th of November in Scotland, more than 100 world leaders are discussing the state - and fate - of our planet. 🌍

The urgency of getting on track with the Paris Agreement and 1.5 degrees target is in everyone’s mouth. But is the COP26 enough to wake us up?

Let us know your opinion👇👇

Hey! 👋🏼 My name is Verena, I am 24 years old and originally from Germany. This autumn I started my master’s in Governance of Sustainability in The Hague after finishing my bachelor’s in the field of Energy Economics.

As I grew up close to the Alps, I love being out in nature and hiking in the mountains. Seeing the direct effects of climate change there made me think of how I can live more sustainably. One way I enjoy a more sustainable lifestyle is hosting dinners for my friends with fresh, seasonal, and local food purchased directly from the farmers at one of the many markets in Zuid-Holland. I also like to garden and grow my own plants on my small balcony in Rotterdam. Besides that, I also love strolling through second-hand stores and have already found so many unique pieces - it is such a great way of giving clothes and furniture a second life. 🏔🌻🥬

As the treasurer, I am tracking the budget of our board. I am responsible for creating a yearly plan, so we spend our money in a thoughtful and sustainable way and provide all students from the three universities with interesting events. 💳

Looking forward to meeting you during our upcoming events!

🚨🌎AMSTERDAM CLIMATE MARCH 🌏🚨

As world leaders gather in Glasgow for COP26 next week, people are coming together worldwide to protest against the climate crisis. Next Saturday 6th November will be the largest climate march to date and you can join in Amsterdam!

⏰ The march starts at 13:00 in Dam Square and is a call to the Dutch government to place environmental issues at the top of their agenda. To read more about the specific demands associated with the march, see the following page: https://klimaatmars2021.nl/english/

🚆 NS offers discounts to groups of 4-7 people, so a return to Amsterdam would only be about 10€ if you make a group to go with! The following page shows you where different groups are going from so you can join. Also includes information on rail construction to avoid that are occurring on the weekend: https://klimaatmars2021.nl/de-mars/

DELFT: There is a group organised by the Delftse Klimaatcoalitie that is leaving together from Delft on the day: https://www.facebook.com/events/588638089159428/?active_tab=about 🚆

THE HAGUE: There is a protest sign painting workshop happening this Sunday (14:00 to 18:00) at the Gymzaal (Witte de Withstraat 127) - come with paint, brushes and some cardboard (there is some spare if you’re lacking these materials) 🎨

Hello! My name is Josh and I recently took over the creative side of things at the CfS student board. I’m 25 years old, originally from Germany and have been living in Leiden for the past two years following a bachelor in Cultural Anthropology.

I believe that both individual and collective action have key impacts on changing any status quo. With an increasing degree of environmental degradation, consumer behaviour has to be changed. On an individual level I hope to do my part by avoiding to buy any new products as far as possible and engaging in a spirit of repair & recycle ♻️

To have an impact on a more collective scale I joined the CFS student board to spread awareness to people beyond my friends & family. My other passions are making music and photography! 🎸📷

It might only be Monday but we're already whetting our appetite for our event on Friday about food, with food (!), in collaboration with the Erasmus Sustainability Hub! 🌽🥯🧆

On Friday 29th of October, we will be hosting our event ‘Food for Thought’ where there will be a free vegan lunch at the Hub and discussion around the food politics of two local companies.

We will be joined by Anne Sonnleitner & Tessa Overboom who started the company Potjes & Deksels, a waste free grocery van that visits Rotterdam and Capelle aan den IJssel. Passers by can visit the van/store with their own jar, container or tupperware and get their fill of waste-free groceries close to their home. 🛒

The second company that will be joining us is Wilder Land! A regenerative tea company started by Daan van Diepen and Matthijs Westerwoud when pondering over how to stimulate Dutch biodiversity. During the lecture, you can taste the teas and learn more about their work! ☕️

The event will be in person at the Erasmus Sustainability Hub but also available to follow online. *Update: waiting list for in person spots, unlimited online*

Join us for good food, chatter and hopefully some insightful discussions. Sign up through the link in our bio! 🍲🥗🌞

Here are some impressions from our last event: Water Scarcity in the Nile. Iman Tantawy shared her experience as a Satellite Data and Development Advisor at the Rijswaterstaat and provided great insights in order to start finding solutions to bridge the gap between current innovation and policymakers. Thank you to all attendees for joining us and participating in this event! @ Universiteit Leiden Wijnhaven
