Quick reminder to hydrate and stop the
thirst! It’s hot in The Netherlands!

Whenever I’m experiencing emotional challenges, I find it difficult to sit behind my desk and draw. I feel more like this old asian chef and stand in the kitchen and cook all day. I am an emotional eater but also an emotional cook.

Last few days I’ve been making my own falafel, kneaded dough for flatbread, fried my own chicharonnes, and produced a big jar of beef tallow.

I like to do every other thing than what am supposed to do and I’m learning to be ok with that.

The way we embrace loss and process life’s deepest lessons comes in any shape and form.

I rarely google myself, but while searching for old work online, I suddenly saw my name in a Volkskrant article.

Wow, that one completely slipped by me. Still, a pleasant surprise on this hot day at .35 .

This remains one of my highlights from recent years. My spread for , a historical graphic novel about Rotterdam, by Rotterdammers, and free for first-year students in this beautiful city.

Written by .benali , drawn by a stack of top-notch illustrators and artists like , , , , , , and many more talents.

Initiated, curated, and directed by none other than .

My spread was a future vision of Rotterdam in 2050, themed ‘City As Playground,’ set in Rotterdam-Zuid.

I’ve lived in Zuid for fourteen years, my studio is in Zuid, and I love Zuid! Yo, I just had to nail this!

So cool to reimagine iconic structures: De Kuip as a ball pit, the Erasmuslijn as a rollercoaster through the Essalam Mosque, a towering halfpipe from Skateland, the Rijnhaven beach nearby, and of course, the Boogjes from the city center moved to Zuid—no offense, no regrets 😉.

If you want to read it, it’s still available at your favorite bookstore or comic shop. I saw it at not long ago.

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Private Commission, 2022)

This iconic Kendrick Lamar track dives deep into peer pressure and self-reflection, so I visualized it through his distorted reflection in a pool, flipped upside-down.

This one-of-a-kind piece was commissioned by an Adobe Illustrator workshop trainee and entrepreneur for her son, a huge Kendrick fan. We bonded over seeing Kendrick live in Amsterdam that year – a special moment!

Using Hahnemuhle 300gsm paper, Epsom Ultrachrome ink, and museum-grade AR70 glass, I made sure this print reaches pure quality. The original Illustrator file? Gone for exclusivity.
