Qualichi Faces Easter fundraising event was a blast. There was food, snacks, music and even give-a-way prizes for raffles that took place at the hour. Thanks to the newly members of the team, Xynara and Sue-Neeli who helped out with the coordination of the event, together with our secretary Suzette. Also many thanks to Donia for arranging the location and to our treasurer Veronica for helping with the coordination of the menu. Also not forgetting Emiko, Donie and another newly member Tasika for helping out with the food. Yet not forgetting our youngest member of the team, Bernadine who helped made our guest feel welcome. We were also grateful for Teresita for assisting us and Glenn for giving a helping hand with the BBQ. We were very glad to see some of the students, members of the Rotterdam Methodist church, member of the USC foundation and the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten who all came out with their families to support us. Thank you all and hope to see you again at our next event!

Merry Christmas everyone from Qualichi Faces.

This year was a festive time for Sint Maarten students to celebrate yet another Christmas Dinner with Qualichi Faces. This was the 3rd occasion whereas the ladies of Qualichi Faces decided to also invite the elderly to join in the celebration. Furthermore, the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten, Henrietta Doran York, who is also the founder of the foundation attended the dinner together with her family. This year was grand with more attendance than ever and we hope to continue this dinner every year for all students who are not able to spend their time at home with their parents in Sint Maarten. What makes this dinner so special is not only the free meal and gifts but the warm feeling of a taste of home. The students enjoyed it very much and the ladies of Qualichi really appreciated their attendance. See you all next year, it will be Grand!

Qualichi Faces with many other Dutch Caribbean foundations were invited to a meeting at the SXM House discussing the possibilities of funding made available by the Oranje Fonds. The meeting was very interesting as it was discussed about the organization, the role that the organization plays in the society and examples of projects that are accepted and denied for funding. It was also interesting to hear that even in the Dutch Caribbean many projects are very active as they have a great impact on the society. Even though there may be other organizations with different missions, the Oranje Fonds are more focused on the society and bringing people together. The idea of building the bridge and helping the less fortunate find their way within the Dutch society will be supported.

President of Qualichi Faces, Ms. Emmielin Rombley, was invited to an informal High Tea meeting with the Director at Ministry of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations, Mr. Erwin Arkenbout. The Director wants more visibility with the Dutch Caribbean community and would like to get in touch with highly educated “young talents” or “new generations" from the Dutch Caribbean part of the Kingdom in order to find out how they monitor developments in the islands of origin, the developments within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, whether there is a “Koninkrijksgevoel” and whether they have the ambition to challenge this and how they see the Dutch Kingdom in the future. The meeting was very interesting and in some parts quite intense and controversial as we spoke about; Intercultural discrimination, Racism, Slavery, Education, Autonomy, Good Governance and Integrity. It was great to exchange ideas and a good opportunity to meet with Mr. Arkenbout, which has very good ties with Sint Maarten. The foundation would like to thank President of OCAN, Mr. Glenn Helberg and his assistants for organizing this event and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations for inviting the President to this meeting.

The Ladies of Qualichi Faces celebrated International Women’s day on the 8th of March at the Holland Methodist Church, in Rotterdam. As part of the Sunday service, Qualichi Faces entertained invited guests while presenting them with a special gift and a small but warm supper after the service. One of the newest members, Emiko Bird-Lake, opened the floor with a special thanks to Pastor Keith B. Lewis and the Methodist members in welcoming the foundation in celebrating this special occasion in church. She also reminded everyone of how special women are in the world as this year the theme for International Women’s day was, “Make it happen”. Her speech was then followed by a poem by the foundation Treasurer, Veronica Lake, which was called “Arise Women of God”. After the poem the President of the Foundation, Emmielin Rombley gave a brief speech of the foundation while mentioning the many women of the past and present with great influence of our world today. Afterwards the members continued by singing, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, a song of gratefulness for what God has done for us.

What a productive night for the ladies of Qualichi Faces that were invited to the gathering of Sint Maarten foundations and associations at the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten. Due to our strong belief and our faith the opening prayer was done by one of our members. It was indeed a very fruitful evening glad the attendance was good and as most groups were saying ‘United we stand divided we fall!’ It is time we get together and see what we can do to help our Sint Maarten people since we are all aiming for the same cause. Special thanks goes out to Emiko Bird-Lake, one of our newest members who represented the foundation very perfectly and to the Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten Hon. Josianne Fleming-Artsen for inviting the members of Qualichi Faces.
