THABUR lamps, crafted in The Hague from the 1920s to 1949, are iconic examples of Art Deco design. Known for their pastel opaline glass and Bakelite fixtures, these lamps combine artistry, innovation, and enduring quality.
This flower-shaped ceiling lamp showcases THABUR’s signature style, featuring a pastel green globe and floral-inspired design. Such lamps were hallmarks of the 1930s, reflecting the bold aesthetics of the era.
Under Jozeph Blik’s leadership from 1925, THABUR flourished, employing over 400 workers by 1938. Their factory on Annastraat in The Hague produced a wide range of lamps, celebrated for their vibrant colors and sturdy construction.
Today, THABUR lamps are prized collectibles, valued for their rarity, authenticity, and timeless beauty. This particular piece is not just a lamp but a testament to the elegance and craftsmanship of a bygone era.

Rectangular storage tin made of tinned sheet metal with a hinged lid and two small metal side handles. The surface is decorated in lithographic technique with polychrome ornamentation on a black ground. At the center of the lid, a striking bird of prey— a Japanese hawk or falcon (*taka*, 鷹)—is depicted with hooked beak, fierce eye, and powerful talons, perched on a pine branch against a background of sun and clouds. The sides and border of the lid feature lush red peonies (*botan*) with gilded tendrils. On the top, Japanese characters are inscribed: 木果堂 (“Mokkadō”), presumably a fanciful brand name created to give the object an exotic and authentic appeal. The interior is undecorated, with a pressed relief of a bird in the lid.
