On top of the registry plugin we are building currently (which is almost done!) we are also working on something else....

For a long time we've wanted to have a fully functional research database for our samples, sightings, etc. but that is simply not maintainable using Wordpress......

So we are building our own Content Management System!

That one will be a good while as it will have MANY extra functions that we currently don't have. And we want to keep our students and customers on track with the courses they are currently doing. that way certificates stay active, students will stay enrolled in the courses without loss of progress, and customers keep their downloads in their accounts.

New functions will include a source library for scientific sources for education content, a central species bank with resuable blocks, a media library with licensing management and the most exciting?

A fully functional research module in which we can add research projects, add samples and data and have a central research bank in the front end where you as readers can easily search through all of them!

Now this will take a LOT of time to program, so it will be a good while before we will move the website to our own CMS. But this will allow THP to grow with my upcoming education into Environmental Sciences so much better!

Oh goodness, this registry is really going places! 😍

We've added EVEN MORE features, including the option to add offspring to the "available young" page. You can add young to that list directly from the litter profile in the offspring tab. You can list prices for pet only and breeding rights separately. Other members can then see that young in the "available young" page in the menu, check out their public profiles and directly message you as the breeder from that page.

After a good conversation, you can then click the buttons to add them to the waitlist or directly assign them to a hoglet. If things don't work out, you can withdrawn them from the waitlist either via the litter profile or directly from the conversation thread you have with that person.

We're slowly connecting various features with each other to make the registry work more seamlessly, to make it as easy as possible to work with. And I genuinely believe this will help so many breeders get a better grip on not just their pedigree management, but also the wait list, health management, medications, weights, everything. Just all in one singular place. ❤️🦔

We're also adding the possibilities to request features and updates to the plugin, to keep improving it as we go.

Warning: VERY long post!

For five years now, i've wanted to run a pedigree registry with fully automated functions. Ever since i've stopped breeding myself, that has been something i have been thinking about and i just could not let it go. So when i was working on the COI and genetic calculator tools, i decided .... Why not?!

For just about two years, i have been completely silent on this journey, because we all know the backlash i have had in the past about just this. I have been thinking it out, make a list of features, a global design, a plan to fully automate it and i've been making a very nice base plugin to get started on. Since yesterday we've been elaborately testing this plugin. And i'm saying "we" because i have a little help testing it all out thanks to Lizl Van Vreden

We are currently testing our new and improved color calculator!

This calculator allows you to select parents and ancestors to calculate color outcomes in litters. Currently we are finetuning the script and testing it thoroughly, so we can move on to more breeding related tools, free to use for anyone!

Hello everyone,

As some of you know, i have been thinking about how to develop THP into a meaningful platform that is useful for both owners and breeders of hedgehogs in captivity as well as doing research and courses about biodiversity, sustainability and other nature-related topics.

In september, i will start my bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences at the Open University of Amsterdam. And with that, i am starting a whole new chapter in life with the opportunity to develop things even further

In less than 24 hours an update will be done to our online course plugin. This can result in a bit of downtime, a few glitches here and there and maybe a maintenance screen or two. But.....

We are working on improving the Knowledge Hub!

Everything regarding hedgehogs in captivity now has its own category, including a subcategory for everything breeding related.

The rest of the categories are about hedgehogs in the wild, conservation, biodiversity, research and public outreach materials. That means that our creative Commons materials will be found in the knowledge hub as well as the webshop!

We also added a category for research communication, where we can share datasets for different researches. Our project pages will be linked to the category belonging to that project so they'll be easy to find.

And on top of that we will be writing a LOT more free-to-read educational articles!

We will also be adding pages to point out the difference between our Creative Commons materials and our Copyrighted materials.

Slowly but surely devoping The Hedgehog Program into a real Hedgehog specialized knowledge platform because.....

I am starting a bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences this coming September! ❤️🦔 Those who have followed me for a few years know how much I wanted to get a related degree in the field to add to my work and be able to do more. And this degree will give me a lot of handles to work with, including GIS, R and lab work training on top of sustainability research and ecology.

Good news from the Hedgehog Hill, the first Hedgehog Dome in the world ❤️🦔

A hedgehog moved in a few days ago and it seems like he or she is making a nest in not one, but TWO of the nesting chambers!
