Already the 4th day of the BioBusiness Summer School! The class of 2019 has already gained a lot of knowledge about a.o. IP, product development, finance and business models, but certainly expanded their (international) network as well!

Surayya Taranum attended the BioBusiness Summer School to gain insight into bioscience entrepreneurship, at the recommendation of alumnus Matthew Heberling She loves to share her experiences with you:

“…This invigorating program provided a broad insight into various aspects of industry, and a wealth of information on various well-known to well-hidden career options for STEM PhDs outside academia. The sessions were structured and talks from top-notch speakers provided distilled information about industry-related topics including business models, business development and finance, entrepreneurship, patents and licenses, and industry-academia collaborations. Networking opportunities provided time for discussions with the speakers that included R&D scientists and CEO/CFO/CSOs, and culminated in a site visit to Janssen Vaccines and meet-your-match sessions with several industry experts. In addition, there was ample of time to interact with the other participants in the course, which made it a very pleasant and rich learning experience. I believe this course can serve as a very effective launchpad into the exciting world of business in science, and I strongly recommend it to anyone seriously considering a career in industry."

His aim was to transition to industry and after attending the BioBusiness Summer School in 2017, he successfully did! Alejandro Montón Silva attended the summer school as postdoc and currently holds the position of Product Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Smit&zoon. He is happy to share his experiences with you:

"The Biobusiness Summer School was a wonderful opportunity to have a better understanding about the different options available for PhD and Postdocs who, like me, aim to find a position in the pharmaceutical industry. The quality of all speakers and the experiences that they shared were very encouraging and provided us with very useful information. We learned a lot about finances, regulatory aspects, entrepreneurship and business development. We even had the chance to visit Janssen pharmaceutics and talk to the people working there. There was also a lot of time for networking, and the atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. The event organization and the people of Hyphen Projects were also a plus. Definitely, I would strongly recommend to anyone considering to leave academia to attend to the Biobusiness Summer School."
