Can't Dutch This

Can't Dutch This is an initiative run by students in Amsterdam. The main focus of our courses is speaking the language!

Our goal is to provide low priced, high-quality and fun Dutch courses to all internationals living in The Netherlands. We started this initiative in order to provide cheap language courses to students, expats and other internationals living in the Netherlands. With this we hope to provide a fun and dynamic course :)

As we are students that have been abroad ourselves, we know the fun and importan

ce of learning the language from the country where you're living. Dutch is not the easiest language, but when you get the heck of it it is loads of fun! Together with our partners we already provide courses to around 100 students a year. Our teachers are students or graduates that have more than 5 years of experience with tutoring or teaching.

They’re not interchangeable though; so here’s how you use them.

MAKING PLURALS IN DUTCH SIMPLIFIED 👇

If you ever struggle with how to make words plural in Dutch, you’ll want to save this for later.

✨ 1. The default rule
➡️ Add -en
📌 boek → boeken
📌 schoen → schoenen

✨ 2. Add -s
➡️ If the word ends in -e + consonant (like -er, -el, -em)
📌 kamer → kamers
📌 jongen → jongens

➡️ If the word ends in -e with a short sound
📌 meisje → meisjes

✨ 3. Add -‘s
➡️ If the word ends in a long vowel
📌 auto → auto’s
📌 taxi → taxi’s
Why the apostrophe?
To keep pronunciation clear and avoid confusion

📌 Quick recap:
Most words → -en
Some endings → -s
Long vowels → -‘s
