International Visit to Winford Bilingual Primary School
We recently had the pleasure of hosting colleagues from Noblaskolan School (Sweden), as part of the Erasmus+ programme. We also welcomed the Board of Directors and Supervisory Board of AcadeMedia to the Netherlands.
A special part of the programme was the visit to Winford Bilingual Primary School. Director and Programme Coordinator, Joy Otto, gave the group an overview of Winford’s approach to bilingual education. At its core is immersive learning. Within the so-called People, Place, Color principle, each language has its own designated space: in the blue classroom, English is spoken exclusively by English-speaking teachers, while in the red classroom, Dutch takes center stage. This clear structure helps students switch smoothly between the two languages.
Our Swedish colleagues asked a great question: why is the Dutch classroom actually red… and not orange? We’ll have to get back to them on that one 🤔.
The Bilingual team provided an inspiring tour and engaged in an open discussion about their approach and experiences. That’s exactly what these kinds of visits are all about: learning from each other, staying curious, and helping each other grow.
