What a way to end a busy year: we are really proud to have been awarded Best Intercultural Preparation Training Provider Global.
Going for a hybrid/blended learning approach was definitely the best decision for both: our clients who did not have to stop their training programs and for us as a business.

Three weeks ago we were a little shy about the Education and Training award we won. A lot of our colleagues, clients, and collaborators asked, why we do not shout it from the rooftops. So here is a shout out to all those in need of intercultural training and coaching:

If you want to learn more, we have a special offer. If you work in HR and are looking for a hybrid intercultural training program, we offer you one week of free access to our intercultural academy, so you do not have to do a blind bargain.

Tooting our own horn is what we find difficult. Social Media has become so loud lately. This is why, most of the time, we keep quiet about our own success. When we checked our mailbox yesterday, we were super proud to receive the result of this year's education and training awards. We are very happy to announce that we have won the 2021 Education and Training Award as "Leading Experts in Intercultural Training and Coaching 2021". This is the fourth award in 24 months, maybe we should start shouting it from the rooftops?

Winners in the iStudy Awards for Most Innovative in Education and Training
Bilingual Solutions was founded in 2009 by Tina Nkobi and Alexandra Jandausch. They have assisted clients in creating high-end instructional design solutions and trainings on intercultural and leadership development. Mechthild Mueller joined the team in 2016. Collectively, they have over 25 years of training and development experience in higher education, government, healthcare, automotive, IT, chemical, steel, and the service centre industry. They provide insight on trends impacting organisations related to intercultural trainings and international leadership development.
Using their academic and professional background in psychology, andragogy, cognitive science, and instructional design, the company’s founders have developed an innovative evidence-based training programme that highly impressed the iStudy judges. Their evidence-based methodologies – including intentional change theory and cognitive behaviour modification theory –works on all three levels of learning: cognitive, affect and behaviour. By including the learners’ cultural norms, values, and beliefs and teaching them the metacognitive skills necessary to understand how their own cultural baseline affects their thoughts, feelings, and actions, the programme allows them to change behaviour consciously and intentionally. The main goal of the programme is to help learners become more open-minded and flexible as individuals to help them to develop intercultural competencies beyond the training as autonomous learners.
Bilingual Solutions have pioneered their cognitive behavioural training to expertly prepare individuals for work or study in a foreign country.

Welcome back to the third part of our blog series.
In our second blog, we left you with the steps you can take to become an interculturally mature person.
In this edition, we introduce a few concepts from the intercultural theory that will help you understand how intercultural training works and what pitfalls to avoid when looking for a training provider.
What do people think of when asked to define ‘culture’?
The image or model most widely used in intercultural training, you may have seen it before on social media posts, to visualize culture is the iceberg. However, the image of an iceberg, with a visible tip and an invisible foot is somewhat problematic, as the metaphor implies that culture is an actual thing. In reality, culture is a process, a consensus that is the result of people living in a society and agreeing on certain values, beliefs, sharing of language, traditions, and so on.

SERIES: World Solutions – Episode 2
In our first blog article, we talked about our motivation to work in the intercultural field.
Current political, economic and media output from around the world show us that prejudice and stereotypes have become ever more prevalent in our everyday lives. So, we are all the more convinced that we’re on the right track and that we need to do what we can to contribute towards the development of people’s intercultural competencies.
In our professional and personal lives, generally, most of us prefer to get along well with our colleagues, superiors, clients, neighbours, etc. Getting along well in a globalized world requires the ability to access intercultural competencies. If you want to live or operate successfully in different parts of the world and if you really want to get to know and enjoy cultures you need to gain intercultural maturity.
Intercultural maturity? What’s that now?
Well, before we go into more detail about what we’re talking about here’s a list of dos and don’ts which are always popular on internet pages.
