👀 Are LLMs emotional?

New research from Anthropic suggests LLM outputs are largely shaped by functional emotions – internal patterns linked to behavior.

Signals identified by the researchers help explain why models behave the way they do, and tracking them could help catch misaligned behavior well before it shows up in outputs.

Meet one of our speakers: Max Welling.

AI researcher and co-founder of CuspAI, Max will give a keynote on Reimagining Scientific Discovery in the Age of AI.

In his talk, Max will share his perspective on how AI enables breakthroughs in science and what new possibilities this opens for researchers and engineers.

Max is Professor at the University of Amsterdam, Merkin Distinguished Visiting Professor at Caltech, and Senior Fellow at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.

His research spans computer science, statistics, computer vision, machine learning, and more. Max is known for pioneering probabilistic deep learning, including variational autoencoders and graph neural networks. Now he’s pushing forward AI-driven discovery in materials science.

London, day one: our in-person AI Performance Engineering course is officially underway in the UK, with nearly 200 participants 🇬🇧

There are 14 intensive weeks ahead for this cohort of motivated, talented professionals. We’ll focus on AI engineering, performance optimization, LLM training and deployment. We’ll get into AI agents, dissect LLMs, and set up multi-GPU training pipelines. We’ll explore RL post-training and do so much more.
