SCHOLARSHIP FOR ORPHAN GIRLS

The Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC), in collaboration with Tazkiyah University, Kaduna, is pleased to announce a Full Scholarship Opportunity for Qualified Paternal Orphan Girls seeking to pursue undergraduate education at Tazkiyah University.

This initiative is designed to support academically qualified young women whose educational aspirations may be constrained by the loss of their fathers and financial circumstances.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

✅ Have a minimum of 5 credits in O-Level results (including Maths and English)
✅ Have a minimum JAMB score of 180

Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC) Hosts the 3rd Edition of UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum

Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC) has successfully hosted the 3rd Edition of the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum, a monthly lecture series designed to strengthen the educational, intellectual and moral well-being of Tazkiyah University students. The forum, focused on the theme, “Navigating Societal and Religious Expectations: Building Identity, Well-Being and Purpose as a Female University Student,” which provided a valuable platform for students to reflect on the religious and societal expectations that influence their academic, personal and future decisions.

In his welcome and opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Tazkiyah University, Professor Faruk Sarkinfada, welcomed the distinguished guest speaker, invited guests, directors, staff and students to the programme. The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of creating an educational environment where female students can pursue academic excellence while maintaining sound moral values and a strong sense of responsibility. Professor Faruk Sarkinfada further appreciated TERC for sustaining the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum as a platform through which students can address contemporary challenges and receive guidance that supports their academic growth, personal development and moral formation.

The Guest Speaker, Director of the Counselling and Human Development Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Hadiza Ahmed Tukur, delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on the theme, addressing key issues surrounding the religious and societal expectations placed on female university students. Through a practical, interactive, challenging, humorous and impactful discussion, she engaged the students with relatable real-life situations, encouraging them to critically examine the expectations that influence their choices, identity and well-being. The session ultimately challenged the students to look beyond societal pressures, understand their responsibilities, protect their well-being and pursue their education and future aspirations with purpose, dignity and confidence.

In his recap and vote of thanks, the Secretary General of Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC), Malam Mujtaba Muhammad appreciated Allah (SWT) for the success of the programme and expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, university management, the Guest Speaker, directors, staff, students and all other contributors to the success of the forum. The Secretary General, highlighted the major lessons from the lecture, particularly the need for students to distinguish authentic religious guidance from cultural expectations, build a balanced identity, safeguard their well-being and approach their education and future with purpose.

The programme also featured goodwill messages from the University’s representatives, who commended TERC for organising the counselling forum and emphasised the importance of continuous mentorship and guidance for students. Other highlights included inspiring poetry presentations, which added a creative and reflective dimension to the event, as well as an engaging question-and-answer session that enabled students to seek clarification and interact directly with the Guest Speaker on issues raised from the lecture. The 3rd Edition of the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum therefore concluded as an impactful and engaging gathering.

TERC Advances Moral and Intellectual Development Through UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum

Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC) hosted a new edition of UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum, a monthly educational and counselling initiative designed to promote the moral, intellectual, and personal development of students. The forum provides a dedicated platform for students to engage with experienced educationists and scholars on issues that extend beyond academic learning, with the aim of nurturing women to become educationally sound, intellectually grounded, morally guided, and well-prepared for lifelong success.

In his opening remarks, the Secretary-General of TERC, Malam Mujtaba Muhammad explained that the former monthly lecture series had been redirected into the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum to create a more focused platform for female-to-female and heart-to-heart engagement between students and accomplished women in education and scholarship. According to him, the initiative reflects TERC’s commitment to complementing formal education with moral guidance, mentorship, and character development.

The guest speaker, Malama Rabi’atu Abubakar Yahaya, delivered a lecture titled “Beyond Academics: Building Moral Character for Women’s Lifelong Success.” Malama emphasised that academic achievement and moral character are complementary rather than contradictory, stressing that genuine education should be reflected in a person’s conduct and relationships. The guest speaker encouraged the students to learn from the marital relationships of their parents, particularly values such as respect, patience, ethical conduct, understanding, and mutual responsibility, which she described as essential qualities for building successful lives and relationships.

Speaking further, Malama Rabi’atu observed that a degree may secure employment, but good character sustains a person, creates opportunities for advancement, and prepares one for leadership. She therefore urged the students to cultivate patience, humility, and respect while avoiding envy, pride, and arrogance, emphasised that the pursuit of academic excellence should go hand in hand with the development of sound moral character, as both are essential to achieving meaningful and sustainable success in personal, professional, and social life.

The programme featured a Qur’anic recitation, followed by the keynote lecture, an interactive question-and-answer session, and poetry presentations. The engagement provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between education, character, relationships, and lifelong success while interacting directly with the guest speaker. Through initiatives such as the UMMUN-NABI Counselling Forum, TERC continues to strengthen its commitment to holistic education by creating platforms that nurture knowledge, character, confidence, and responsible leadership among women.

Tazkiyah University Hosts Sheikh Mustafa Briggs for Special Public Lecture

The Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre (TERC), conducted a Special Public Lecture featuring renowned international Islamic scholar, Sheikh Mustafa Briggs, as part of its commitment to promoting intellectual excellence, Islamic scholarship, and character development. The lecture forms part of TERC’s monthly educational and lecture series designed to enrich the intellectual capacity of Tazkiyah University students, encourage informed engagement with contemporary issues, and advance the University’s vision of nurturing knowledgeable, morally upright, and globally competitive graduates.

In attendance were the Vice Chancellor, Tazkiyah University, Professor Faruk Sarkinfada, The Registrar, Alhaji Bashir Abubakar, The University Librarian, Dr. Usman A. Adam, The Director Basic and General Studies, Dr. Ibrahim U. Gusau, staff and students of Tazkiyah University, management staff of the Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre and members of the public.

Delivering the lecture, Sheikh Mustafa Briggs reflected on the contributions of women intellectually in the history of Islam through the life of the Beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and after. He explained that the first person to learn Qur’anic verses directly from the Prophet was his noble wife, Sayyidah Khadijah (RA), while other women in Islamic history, including Sayyidah Aisha (RA), Sayyidah Hafsah (RA), and Umm Salamah (RA), made remarkable contributions to the transmission of Islamic knowledge. He noted that the Hadith narrated by Sayyidah Aisha accounts for approximately one-third of Islamic jurisprudence, while the first compiled copy of the Holy Qur’an was entrusted to Sayyidah Hafsah (RA), daughter of Sayyidina Umar (RA), whose preservation of the manuscript remains a significant contribution to Islam. He also highlighted that the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was a pioneer in promoting female education by consistently encouraging women to seek knowledge and excel in life.

Drawing further lessons from history, Sheikh Mustafa Briggs stated that the concept of the university was pioneered by a woman, Fatima al-Fihri, over 1,200 years ago. He explained that she established a mosque and a madrasa, which eventually became the first University in the world, Qarawiyyin University from the ancient city of Morocco, where scholars from different religious and academic backgrounds studied, including the Sheikh himself. He cited this as a testament to the longstanding role of women in advancing education and scholarship within the Islamic tradition.

Towards the end of the lecture, Sheikh Mustafa Briggs described the establishment of Tazkiyah University, where women are provided with the opportunity to study and contribute meaningfully to their communities as a beautiful initiative. He stressed that the institution is not an innovation but a revival of a deeply rooted Islamic tradition. Sheikh Mustapha congratulated the Founder, Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Sarkinfada, and the management, together with members of staff for serving this pioneering institution, and commended Tazkiyah Educational Resource Centre for organizing the program.

The Sheikh concluded with prayers for Almighty Allah to bless the University’s pioneer students and the institution as a whole, elevate it to greater heights as He did the university founded by Fatima Al-Fihri, and enable it to produce women who will positively transform their communities, the nation, and the African continent.

Q: Is Tazkiyah University established exclusively for female orphans?

A: No. Tazkiyah University is a female-only institution open to all qualified applicants who meet its admission criteria. It is not limited to orphans.

Note: The University provides scholarship opportunities to orphans. Currently, about 50 orphaned students are enrolled and actively pursuing their studies at the institution on scholarship.

ABUJA NATIONAL MOSQUE TAFSIR: Key Lessons from the Day 11 Qur’anic Tafsir by Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari

Moral Responsibility, Justice and Unity

On Saturday, 28th February 2026, corresponding to the 11th day of Ramadan, 1447 AH, the Qur’anic Tafsir session was delivered by Imam Sheikh Professor Ibrahim Ahmad Maqari (H) at the National Mosque, Abuja. The session focused on verses (100, 101, 102 & 103) from Suratul An‘am. In his exposition, the Imam emphasized that religion is not inherited through biological lineage but rather earned and sustained through upright character, sincere faith, and righteous conduct. He explained that true religiosity is reflected in moral discipline, justice, and obedience to the commands of Allah, not merely by family background or social identity.

Addressing current global challenges, Professor Maqari provided a thoughtful analysis of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. He stressed that war is not to be welcomed in Islam; however, self-defense and retaliation are permitted when individuals or communities are unjustly attacked. He illustrated this principle using the example of victims of kidnapping, clarifying that resistance against oppression is legitimate. He cited a Prophetic teaching which states that if such victims resist and overcome their attackers, the aggressors bear the consequences of their crimes, while those who are killed in the course of lawful self-defense attain the reward of martyrdom and entry into Paradise.

The Imam further called on Muslims not merely to celebrate victories of Iran but to consistently pray for all oppressed nations in the Middle East suffering injustice, particularly under Zionist aggression. He expressed deep concern over the role of certain Arab states that provide intelligence and logistical support to oppressive forces, urging them to return to the path of unity and brotherhood. He underscored that the ongoing struggle represents a conflict between justice and injustice and that the Muslim Ummah must stand firmly on the side of justice.

In a passionate appeal, Sheikh Maqari urged Muslims worldwide—particularly those in Nigeria and Northern Nigeria—to strengthen their intentions, increase supplication, and place their trust solely in Almighty Allah. He warned that the challenges confronting the Muslim world are not distant realities but imminent concerns, requiring unity, vigilance, and collective responsibility.

Turning attention to the socio-political realities of Northern Nigeria, the Imam lamented the divisions fueled by political rivalry and personal interests. He called for reconciliation, urging leaders and communities to set aside past grievances and work collectively toward lasting solutions. He stressed the urgent need for a unified political and social agenda, not driven by personal ambition, but guided by the interests of the Ummah and the preservation of Islamic values.

Professor Maqari also appealed to political leaders to abandon hostility and prioritize economic development, social justice, and peaceful coexistence. He cited the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who upheld dignity, cooperation, and inclusive service in Madinah, even engaging non-Muslims in societal development, thereby emphasizing the importance of coexistence and mutual respect.

The Tafsir session concluded with heartfelt and comprehensive supplication for the peace, unity, guidance, and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah across the globe.
