Adamawa Declares Monday Public Holiday to Honour Late Former Governor Tukur

​Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has declared Monday, 14 September 2026, a work-free day to honour the late former Governor of defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

​The announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.

​According to the statement, the one-day public holiday will allow residents across the state to pay their last respects and reflect on the life and legacy of the elder statesman.

​Alhaji Bamanga Tukur was buried in Yola on Sunday following funeral prayers at the Lamido’s Palace.

​Governor Fintiri praised the late leader, stating that the holiday recognises his immense contributions to the growth and development of both Adamawa State and the nation.

​The government has also declared a three-day period of mourning, during which all flags in the state will fly at half-mast.

​While essential services will remain operational, Governor Fintiri urged residents to use the day to pray for the late statesman and support his family, friends, and the people of Adamawa during this period of grief.

UPDATE ON THE ONGOING RECRUITMENT OF 5,000 TEACHERS.

The data capture exercise for the newly recruited staff of the Post Primary Schools Management Board was conducted today, 7th September 2026, at General Murtala Muhammed College, Yola - GMMC.

The exercise covered staff from Mubi Zone and Gombi Zone.

Activities carried out during the exercise include:
1. Verification of appointment letters and academic/professional credentials
2. Biometric data capture of the newly recruited teaching staff

The data capture exercise is ongoing and will be extended to cover other zones as scheduled. The exercise is aimed at ensuring accurate staff records, proper deployment, and effective management of human capital in the education sector.

PPSMB Participates in EU-SARAH Curriculum and Module Adaptation Workshop in Adamawa.

The Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB) was represented at the Curriculum and Module Adaptation Workshop organized under the EU-SARAH Initiative.

The workshop brought together government stakeholders, NGOs, traditional and community leaders to review and adapt curriculum modules aimed at improving girl-child education, life skills, and protection in Adamawa State.

The adapted modules focus on life skills, reproductive health education, gender equality, and protection for adolescents at the post-primary school level.

The workshop is timely and aligns with PPSMB’s mandate to improve quality and inclusiveness in post-primary schools.

The programme was organized by the Centre for Girls’ Education (CGE) under the UNFPA-SARAH Project, funded by the European Union with support from UNFPA and UNICEF.

The EU is a political and economic union that funds education, health, and humanitarian projects in Nigeria. The SARAH Initiative is part of EU’s support to reduce maternal mortality and improve adolescent wellbeing.

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, works to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. UNFPA implements the SARAH Project in partnership with local NGOs.

UNICEF works for children’s rights, survival, and education worldwide.

The Centre for Girls’ Education (CGE) is a Nigerian NGO based in Yola, focused on advancing girls’ education, empowerment, and protection in Northern Nigeria.

Acting Executive Secretary PPSMB Commends AUN and Tech Girls Club for Empowering Girls in AI and Data Science

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Mr. Birsan Penuel, has charged graduands of the Tech Girls Club to use the skills they acquired to solve problems and create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

He made the call during the graduation ceremony of the Tech Girls Club “AI & Data Science for Her” Boot Camp, Cohort I, held at the American University of Nigeria, AUN, Yola Campus.

Congratulating the graduands, Mr. Penuel said "May this achievement be the beginning of many greater accomplishments in your academic, professional and personal lives."

He urged them not to limit themselves, but to keep learning and exploring.
"This is the beginning of your digital career. Use the knowledge you have acquired to create opportunities for yourselves and your communities at large," he said.

In their separate remarks, Dr. DeWayne Frazier, President of AUN, and Dr. Paul Vita, Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, congratulated the graduands. They encouraged them to be inclusive in the digital world and to remain productive for the benefit of the nation.

The Tech Girls Club AI & Data Science for Her Boot Camp is a skill-building initiative designed to equip young girls in JS3, SS2 and SS3 with foundational knowledge and practical skills in emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science. The program introduces participants to digital literacy, data analysis using Microsoft Excel, and beginner-level Python programming, while demonstrating practical applications of AI to real-world and societal challenges.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of medals, awards, and certificates to the graduands.

Ag. Executive Secretary Urges Principals' Wives to Ensure No Orphan is Left Out of School

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Mr. Birsan Penuel, received the delegation of the Principals and Principals' Wives Association who paid him a courtesy visit at his office in the PPSMB Headquarters, Yola.

Mr. Birsan expressed satisfaction with the cooperation, saying it will go a long way in supporting young ones, particularly orphans who lost their parents and have no one to cater for them.

He said the door of the Board is always open to render the necessary support to ensure the organization gets to a higher level.

The Director of School Services, Muhammed Hamman, also expressed appreciation for the visit. He charged the principals' wives to be supportive and submissive to their husbands. He stressed that if a Principal leaves home unhappy, the situation will not remain personal to him but will escalate to affect the entire school.

Speaking earlier, the President of the Principals and Principals' Wives Association, Mrs. Mary Umar Malgwi, thanked the Ag. Executive Secretary for granting their request for the visit. She urged for more support and collaboration to enable the organization to reach greater heights.

Officials and members of the organization were in attendance during the visit.

Ag. Executive Secretary Receives "Icon of Educational Leadership"Award

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Mr. Birsan Penuel, has received an Award of Icon of Educational Leadership from the Adamawa Youth Front.

The award and trophy were presented to him on 11th August, 2026 at his office in the PPSMB Headquarters, Yola.

The Ag. Executive Secretary expressed gratitude to the organization for finding him worthy of the award. He stated that such recognition shows leaders that their work is impactful.

Mr. Birsan called on the leadership of Adamawa Youth Front to upgrade their sensitization on youth drug abuse. He said that any society with vision must ensure it has a drug-free future.

He also charged the Youth Front to put more effort into sensitizing youth to use Artificial Intelligence, AI, positively and productively. stressed that the Board is in full support to ensure no child is left out of school.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Professional Services, Haj. Fadimatu Bello Furo, appreciated the organization for honoring the Ag. Executive Secretary. She said he deserves the award and even more.

Earlier in his remarks, the Ag. President of Adamawa Youth Front, Shu'aibu Yahaya Hassan, urged the Board and other relevant institutions to collaborate with them. He called for partnership, technical support, institutional participation, and other forms of assistance that would enable them to reach more young people and communities with meaningful anti-drug messages.

Adamawa Youth Front is a youth-focused platform committed to promoting youth development, Educational advancement, leadership, good governance, social responsibility, peace, unity and protection of the future of young people in Adamawa State.

The event was attended by most PPSMB Directors and members of Adamawa Youth Front.
