Attend Your Child's Proposed School First!

If it is possible for you as a parent, before getting your child enrolled into that school, visit the school and observe things. Fight to create that chance out of your busy schedule—for it is worth it. If it is possible, visit the school unannounced and uninvited: then ask to be permitted to go around and see the classes—the head of the school should grant the permission except there's something to hide.

When you walk around, pause at the fronts of classes and listen to some teachers teach. Stay for sometime. Check up to 4-5 teachers at least. As you check their teaching, check their age, the dressings—check if they teach happily or grudgingly. Think also, into the aspect of how teachers are treated there.

Check the toilets: not just for the health interest of your child, but to see how they(the school) cares for its facilities to know how they care for teachers and pupils.

Many RED FLAGS of schools of today are hidden under beautiful names and beautiful packages AND YOUR CHILD MAY NEVER TELL YOU. Many children (both in primary and secondary schools) just attend school; they are not really being schooled.

This is all I should say for now: if the spirit leads, I will elaborate this more.

Quiz competition:

The SS1 and SS2 students are engaged in a quiz competition this morning. It is an every Saturday experience here in the seminary.

The class to win gets a reward while the losers go on one-week manual labour.

Tell us

Which is priority: beautiful classrooms or good teachers?

I got locked in an argument with a colleague. His idea was that it is better to have fine, decorated classrooms, even if the school cannot afford good teachers. But I take the opposite side of this idea:

I would choose qualitative teachers as priority. A classroom is meant to bring learners together and give a conducive atmosphere for learning to take place. If it is devoid of noise and distractions, a good teacher will impact. But what would be the benefit of a beautiful classroom and nothing is learnt because the teacher cannot impact?

What are your thoughts?
