I fully understand when parents are ashamed when they are told their child that doesn't look "disabled" needs special education.

Sometimes they've tagged the child as being "unserious", "stubborn" or "not academic material" because the child doesn't focus academically and doesn't look 'disabled'.

Special Education is NOT only for children that has physical disabilities.

According to research and UN statistics, over 70% of disabilities are invisible.

For example: Intellectual disability, Autism, Learning disability, ADHD and others can't be seen physically.

Special Education means your child needs a different approach to learn.

Children with ADHD sometimes find it difficult to cope in mainstream schools without extra support or a special needs teacher that understands ADHD.

What about children with nonverbal austism or intellectual disability?

The list goes on and on and on.

Don't sabotage your child's life because you think special education is for children with physical disability.

Hi Lovelies 🥰,
Let’s talk about children.
Every child learns differently, and sometimes parents notice certain challenges but may not fully understand them. As a special educator I want to create content that will truly help parents support their children better.
So I’d love to hear from parents 👇

What challenge have you noticed in your child?
🔘 Difficulty reading, writing or calculating
🔘 Speech delay / difficulty communicating
🔘 Trouble concentrating or staying still
🔘 Slow learning in school
🔘 Difficulty understanding instructions
🔘 Social interaction challenges
🔘 Something else (please share in the comments)

Write in the comments. Your response will help me know the topics to post about so I can guide parents with practical tips and support.

🔷Remember:
Some children are not slow… they simply learn differently. 🌱
Let’s support every child together. 💙

One of the reasons your child may not be learning well in school
is not about intelligence.
It’s not about the teacher.
It’s not about the school.
It’s not about the textbook or the curriculum.

But about how mistakes are handled at home.

Children learn long before they meet a teacher.
Home is their first classroom and the way we respond to their mistakes lays the foundation for how they approach learning in school.

When mistakes at home are met with:
• Criticism or Shame
• Pressure to be perfect
• Impatience or rushing
• Comparison to siblings or peers.

Children internalize that being wrong is unsafe.
So they protect themselves:
✖ avoiding questions
✖ giving up easily
✖ staying quiet
✖ “pretending to know” instead of trying

By the time they sit in a classroom, these patterns show up clearly.

That's why two children can hear the same lesson:
One raises their hand, tries, and learns from failure.
Another stays quiet, avoids tasks, or says, “I can’t do it.”

The difference is not ability it’s how they were guided at home when things went wrong.

When mistakes are met with:
• Calm correction
• Patience
• Encouragement
• Let’s try again
• seeing mistakes as opportunities to learn

Children learn that learning is safe.
They try, they explore, they persist.
They lean into challenges rather than shrink away.
Home doesn’t just prepare children for school academically.

It shapes their confidence, curiosity, and courage to learn.

If we want children to thrive in the classroom,
we must first teach them at home that mistakes are part of learning, not something to fear.

✅ What you can start doing at home.

✔ Correct with calm, not embarrassment.

✔ Separate the mistake from the child.

✔ Praise effort, not just results.

✔ Say things like: “You’re learning,” “Try again,” “Mistakes help us grow”.

✔ Allow your child to struggle a little before stepping in.

✔ Model how you handle your own mistakes.

Today, notice how you respond the next time your child gets something wrong.

That small moment is shaping how your child will show up in the classroom tomorrow.

If this resonated with you, share it with a parent or educator who may need to hear it.
Small changes at home create big shifts in school.

💬 How to Teach Communication Without Speech
If your child is non-speaking or not yet talking, this is important to hear:

Communication does NOT require speech.

Your child can learn to communicate right now using other ways.

🧠 What Is Communication?

Communication is any way your child lets you know:
● What they want
● What they need
● How they feel

Speech is just one way to communicate.

✋ Ways Your Child Can Communicate Without Talking

✔ Gestures (pointing, reaching, pulling your hand)
✔ Pictures or visuals
✔ Sign language or simple signs
✔ Buttons or AAC devices
✔ Sounds, facial expressions, body movements

All of these count.

How Parents Can Teach Communication at Home

1️⃣ Start with Motivation
Teach communication during moments your child already wants something
(snacks, toys, screen, hugs).

2️⃣ Model the Communication
Show them how:
● Hold up the picture
● Press the button
● Do the sign
Then give the item right away.

3️⃣ Accept ANY Attempt
If your child:
● Points
● Reaches
● Looks at the picture

👉 Respond immediately.
This teaches: “My communication works!”

4️⃣ Pair with Simple Words
Say the word while they communicate:

“You want juice.”
No pressure to repeat.

5️⃣ Practice All Day, Not in ‘Teaching Time’
Use daily routines:
● Mealtime
● Bath time
● Play time
● Going out

Small moments = big progress.

💛 Important Truth for Parents

Using pictures, signs, or AAC will NOT stop speech.
It often helps speech develop.

Communication comes first. Words can come later.

🌱 Progress Might Look Like:
● Less crying
● Less frustration
● More pointing or showing
● Better connection

That is real communication growth.

✨ You are not waiting for speech.
You are teaching communication.
