Our research continuously confirms what nature has always known: healthy mangrove ecosystems are non-negotiable for disaster management.
These coastal forests act as natural bio-shields, absorbing storm surges, stabilizing shorelines, and mitigating the impact of flooding on vulnerable communities. Understanding the ecology of mangroves is the first step toward building climate resilience.
We are committed to advancing the science that protects both our planet and our people.
Hands-on Learning with Us
Last week, we alongside the Institute of Mangrove Ecology and Environmental Technology and Coastal and Marine Areas Development Initiative had the pleasure of hosting 26 passionate corps members from the NEMA and Drug-Free/Quality Control NYSC CDS groups in Warri South LGA.
It was an inspiring day of knowledge sharing!
Mrs. Alero Okotie, one of our park guides, led a session on the vital role of our mangrove ecosystem in disaster risk reduction and climate action.
The corps members also got a practical look at appropriate and affordable technology in action with a live demonstration of our biogas stove, learning how waste management can create clean energy.
We are proud to empower these young leaders with the tools to promote environmental sustainability in their communities.
Thank you for the donation of table covers to support our admin work—every bit helps.
Let’s keep working together for a greener Niger Delta.

This year we saw beautiful artworks from young girls in our communities.
With Coastal and Marine Areas Development Initiative 's library, young people were able to use storytelling and art to talk about conservation and other environmental issues in our communities.
This empowerment is not abstract. These art work tie the global to the personal. They remind us that environmental issues are connected to identity, family, and community.

Meet Our MESF 2025 Fellows.
We are excited to welcome the new cohort of amazing young leaders selected for the Mangrove & Environmental Sustainability Fellowship (MESF)—a fully funded program proudly hosted by us and supported by Coastal and Marine Areas Development Initiative, CMADI.
Over the next four weeks, these passionate fellows will dive into practical and theoretical learning on:
1. Mangrove conservation
2. WASH and environmental health

2. Many already care deeply about mangrove restoration, climate change, and community health
3. Experience levels range from advanced to beginner—but everyone is eager to learn
4. All fellows expressed FULL commitment to the 1-month intensive journey
5. Their expectations strongly align with the goals of the fellowship
This shows just how impactful this year’s fellowship is going to be.
To our MESF Fellows: We wish you a powerful, inspiring, and transformative learning experience. May your skills grow, your passion deepen, and your impact reach far beyond the program.

Welcome to our Phytomedicinal Garden.
At the Institute of Mangrove, Ecology and Environmental Studies (IMEES), now Institute of Mangrove Ecology and Environmental Technology, we believe that every plant carries a story of healing, culture, and survival.
Our Phytomedicinal Garden (Centre for Herbarium Study) at the Falcorp Mangrove Park -Nature and Eco-Leisure Park, Ijala Ikenren, Warri is a living classroom where:
1. Medicinal plants are protected and conserved
2. Students, researchers, and traditional healers learn side by side.
3. Indigenous knowledge meets modern science
4. Future generations discover the power of nature in healthcare
For centuries, local communities have known the secrets of these plants. By preserving both the plants and the wisdom that surrounds them, we are not only protecting biodiversity but also safeguarding our cultural heritage.
This garden isn’t just about plants, it's about people, stories, and the future of medicine. 💚
Come visit, learn, and be inspired!
