International Education Day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on December 3, 2018. It was first celebrated on January 24, 2019. The day was officially proclaimed to recognise the importance of education as a key driver for sustainable development and to promote inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

International Education Day is a day to celebrate and recognise the importance of education in creating a peaceful and sustainable world. It provides an opportunity for teachers, students, and the world at large to reflect on the significance of education in promoting global citizenship, cultural understanding, and cooperation.

For teachers, International Education Day is a reminder of the crucial role they play in shaping the minds of future generations. A simple definition of a Teacher is that he is a multi talented and multi tasking professional.
This is because:-

1. In the classroom, he is called a Teacher

2. During sports he become a Coach

3. During debates he is a Judge

4. During excursions he become a field and a true Guard

5. During examination he is an Invigilator

6. During seminars he is seen as a Panelist

7. During assembly/devotion he becomes a Preacher

8. In case of minor injuries in school, he becomes a first Aider

9. During projects and practical he is a Supervisor

10. During counseling he becomes a Counselor

11. At home he is guardian and Parent

12. He is an observer while Teaching

13. When there is a case in school, he becomes a Detective

14. While preparing for lesson, he is a Researcher

15. He becomes a planner while writing lesson plans, mapping timetables and preparing duty Roster

16. He is a receptionist who politely welcome learners, parents and Visitors

17. While encouraging his learners, he becomes a Motivator

18. When knowledge is needed in a community, he becomes a Consultant

19. He acts as a correspondent by collecting, and sharing of Information within and outside the school
