🎹 What is a Chord? A chord is when you play two or more notes at the same time. Most chords use three or more. The most basic type is a triad — three notes: Root (the main note the chord is named after) Third (gives the chord its major or minor sound) Fifth (adds stability) --- 🔑 Types of Basic Chords 1. Major Chord (happy, strong) Formula: Root + Major 3rd + Perfect 5th Example: C = C–E–G 2. Minor Chord (sad, mellow) Formula: Root + Minor 3rd + Perfect 5th Example: A minor = A–C–E 3. Diminished Chord (tense, unstable) Formula: Root + Minor 3rd + Diminished 5th Example: B diminished = B–D–F 4. Augmented Chord (weird, bright, tense) Formula: Root + Major 3rd + Augmented 5th Example: C+ = C–E–G# --- 🎷 7th Chords (4-note chords) Major 7 (maj7): Smooth, jazzy Formula: 1–3–5–7 Ex: Cmaj7 = C–E–G–B Minor 7 (m7): Cool, laid back Formula: 1–b3–5–b7 Ex: Am7 = A–C–E–G Dominant 7 (7): Bluesy, tense Formula: 1–3–5–b7 Ex: G7 = G–B–D–F --- 🎸 How to Learn Chords Fast Memorize triads in all 12 keys Play them on piano or guitar daily Practice switching between chords smoothly Use them to write simple progressions
