On 17th February 2026, history was made in Akwa Ibom State as Nigeria’s first Jolly Phonics Literacy Hub was officially opened at Life-Long Development Academy (LDA), Uyo, with Gary Foxcroft and Naomi Foxcroft of Safe Child Africa performing the ceremonial rope cutting. The Hub was established to escalate the positive and visible outcomes of the Jolly Phonics programme in improving early-grade literacy to community members. It will serve as a resource, training and community literacy centre supporting community members, teachers, children, youths, and adults across the state and beyond. As a pilot project, it is expected to strengthen literacy outcomes, enhance teacher capacity, and generate lessons for expansion to other states in Nigeria. The project is funded by

Preparations are in top gear at the Life-Long Development Academy (LDA) as our trainees get ready for the NABTEB Examinations scheduled to commence on the 10th of December 2025! 📚✨

Among the candidates are a remarkable group of out-of-school street teenagers whose training was funded by the Street Mentors Network . From the 50 young people trained under this support, 20 were identified as having exceptional potential to earn formal certification. This is an important step to strengthen their employability and open doors to safer, more stable livelihoods.

To ensure that financial barriers do not prevent these vulnerable and most-at-risk adolescents from taking this critical examination, Wit-girl Ngo and Comfort Mde mobilized support from its partners.

We are excited to announce that 12 of these trainees have been fully funded by Universal Learning Solutions for their NABTEB Modular Examination registration. We are grateful to Gary and Naomi Foxcroft and the Universal Learning Solutions team for this incredible and impactful investment into our goal of eliminating vulnerability in the society.

We are also thrilled to announce that one of the trainers for this group is Unwana Sunday our recent graduate and a beneficiary of ECEWS funding.

The Life-Long Development Academy, WIT-GIRL's technical and entrepreneurial training centre, is an approved NBTE-certified examination centre, making it a safe, accessible, and supportive environment for the candidates to write their exams.

This moment is not just about preparing for tests.
it is about restoring dignity,
transforming vulnerability into opportunity
and empowering vulnerable young people with real skills for real jobs.

Many more vulnerable adolescents still need support.

👉 We invite individuals, organizations, philanthropists, and corporate partners to join us in sponsoring the remaining trainees.

👉 Your support will give them the recognized certification they need to break free from street vulnerability and build meaningful, productive lives.

Together, we can shape futures, strengthen communities, and rewrite stories. 💙

On Wednesday the 19th of November 2025, Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme ECEWS redeemed its N200,000 start-up capital pledge to the four trainees that benefited from ECEWS sponsorship at the Life-Long Development Academy (LDA)🎉

The beneficiaries—which comprised 1 adolescent boy and 3 girls drawn from the WIT-GIRL pool of most-at-risk persons (the pool comprises out-of-school adolescents, Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Persons With Disabilities and their dependents) successfully completed a one-year vocational programme in fashion designing, catering, hairdressing and automobile mechanics.

Women in Total Girl Development Centre (WIT-GIRL) is a Non-Governmental Organization with a vision to eradicate all forms of discrimination and abuse against the girl child.
Its Life-Long Development Academy, a co-educational technical and entrepreneurial training institute, was established to fulfil one of its core objective which is reducing vulnerability through hands on training and certification in employable technical and vocational skills.

LDA provided the trainees with technical skills and accommodation throughout the programme, while ECEWS funded their training and certification fees and has now supported them with start-up capital to help them launch their businesses. 💪✨

This achievement is a major step towards empowering vulnerable adolescents with sustainable livelihood skills.

We are grateful to ECEWS and it's Executive Director Dr. Andy Eyo for this partnership. However, our work continues.

👉 We still have 124 vulnerable and most-at-risk persons in our WIT-GIRL pool who urgently need vocational training, mentorship, and start-up support.

👉 We are calling on partners, organizations, and well-meaning individuals to join us in empowering these young people.

Together, we can transform lives, reduce vulnerability, eliminate gender inequality and create brighter futures.
