The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has opened applications for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Application opened: 23 September 2026
Deadline: 31 December 2026

NELFUND is an interest-free student loan, not a scholarship. Eligible students can apply for support for institutional charges and/or upkeep, subject to verification and approval.

If you benefited from NELFUND previously, you should still check your current eligibility and apply for the new session where applicable.

Changed your school? Make sure your JAMB and institutional records reflect your current school before applying.

Already paid your school fees? You may still apply, but don’t assume NELFUND will automatically refund you. Check with your institution’s NELFUND officer/bursary on how already-paid fees are handled.

IMPORTANT: Creating a NELFUND account is NOT the same as applying for the loan. After registering, log in, select β€œRequest for Student Loan,” complete the application and submit it for verification.

Also, don’t create multiple accounts or give your NIN, password or OTP to anyone promising guaranteed approval.

Remember: NELFUND is a loan and must be repaid under the applicable terms.

Apply through the official NELFUND platform and start early instead of waiting until the deadline.

For those asking whether the JUPEB mock and main/extended examinations can be written from anywhere, the answer is no. Candidates are expected to write their examinations at their designated examination venue.

If you are a UNIUYO JUPEB candidate, check your reprinted examination slip carefully. Your examination venue should be stated on the slip.

So, if your venue is at the University or another designated centre, you will need to travel there to write the examination.

Please check your reprinted slip now and take note of your venue, date and examination time.

If JAMB CAPS is showing that you have been admitted, your admission has been approved on the JAMB side.

So, if your school’s portal is yet to update your admission status, there is no need to panic.

Schools do not always update their portals at the same time JAMB updates CAPS. The school portal may take some time to reflect the admission as the school processes and uploads the admitted candidates.

Once JAMB CAPS has given you admission, keep checking your school portal and follow the school’s instructions as updates are released.

Your school portal not showing the admission yet does not automatically mean you have lost the admission.

We have been getting questions from newly admitted students about when the screening will begin.

At the moment, UNIUYO is currently on break, and the admission processing for the 2026/2027 session is still ongoing. This means the university has not yet announced a date for the screening of newly admitted students.

If you have been offered admission, keep checking for official updates. The screening date and other instructions will be communicated by the university when the process is ready.

For now, there is no need to rush based on unconfirmed dates circulating online. We will share the official information once it is released.

Many students in Sierra Leone are still waiting for their 2026 WASSCE results, and WAEC Sierra Leone has not yet given a clear public explanation for the overall delay.

However, there were significant verification issues during this year’s WASSCE registration. Schools initially submitted 219,000 names, but after nationwide verification, 140,000 candidates were cleared to sit for the examination.

The government said the verification was necessary to ensure that only eligible candidates were registered and to prevent issues such as multiple registrations.

WAEC Sierra Leone has also activated an examination-irregularities portal for 2026 WASSCE candidates, allowing candidates to check whether an alleged irregularity has been recorded against their index number.

Important: These processes are documented, but WAEC has not officially stated that they are the reason for the delay in releasing the 2026 WASSCE results.

Students should therefore rely on official updates from WAEC Sierra Leone and MBSSE rather than unverified release dates.
