Milestones to watch out for between 1–2 years
Toddlerhood is filled with rapid growth, curiosity, and new discoveries. While every child develops at their own pace, there are some common milestones parents often notice during this stage.
🧠 Thinking & Learning
Your toddler is beginning to understand more about the world around them. They may recognise familiar people and objects, follow simple instructions, explore everything with curiosity, and begin simple pretend play. Repetition, exploration, and play are all important parts of learning at this age.
🚶 Walking & Movement
Between 1 and 2 years, many toddlers become more confident physically. You may notice independent walking, climbing, pulling toys while moving, attempting to run, and improved balance. Movement helps toddlers build confidence and independence.
🗣️ Talking & Communication
Language development grows quickly during this period. Toddlers may begin saying simple words, pointing to express needs, copying sounds, understanding more than they can say, and eventually combining two simple words together. Communication also includes gestures, facial expressions, and body language.
❤️ Social Interaction
Toddlers begin forming stronger social connections with people around them. They may smile at familiar faces, play beside other children, imitate actions, seek comfort from caregivers, and show affection through hugs or cuddles. Everyday interaction and play help strengthen social and emotional growth.
Remember: every child develops differently. Progress may look different from one toddler to another, and that’s okay. What matters most is steady growth, support, and loving interaction along the way 🌱
