A subtle reminder✨️
How is your week going?

Sometimes, the hardest part of saying NO isn’t the NO itself.

It’s dealing with the guilt that comes after it.

We’ve been taught to associate kindness with availability, so setting boundaries can feel uncomfortable—even when we know we’re doing the right thing.

But learning to say NO is part of learning to respect your time, energy and priorities.

And there’s another side to this conversation:

Learning how to receive NO.

Because if we want people to respect our boundaries, we also have to learn to respect theirs.

I’ll be sharing that in the next post:

“Learn How to Receive NO.”

For now, swipe through and tell me—what are you learning to say NO to?

People are forming an impression of you before you say a word.

Especially when you work remotely.

Your client joins the call.
Your interviewer joins.
Your potential collaborator joins.

And within seconds, their brain is already processing:

"Who is this person?"

Not consciously.
It's happening through the little things:

→ Your posture.
~Your facial expression.
→ Your voice.
~Your eye contact.
→ Your background.
→ How prepared you look.
→ How confidently you introduce yourself.

This is what researchers call “thin-slicing”, making quick judgments from limited information.

And here's the part freelancers and remote professionals need to pay attention to:

Your expertise doesn't get a free pass.

You can be incredibly good at what
you do.

But if your first few seconds communicate uncertainty, disorganization, or lack of preparation, you may have to spend the rest of the conversation correcting that impression.

That's the anchoring effect.
And then there's the halo effect.

A strong first impression can influence how people interpret everything else about you.

Your confidence can make your expertise feel more credible.

Your warmth can make you more approachable.

Your composure can make you appear more competent.

So, before your next:

🎯Upwork interview Client 🎯discovery call
🎯Job interview
🎯Zoom presentation
🎯Webinar
🎯Team meeting
🎯Speaking engagement

Don't only prepare what you're going to say.

Prepare how you'll show up.

Test your camera.

Fix your lighting.

Check your audio.

Know your talking points

Sit up.

Look into the camera.

And please...

Stop joining important calls while still looking for your earphones.😂

Your presentation starts before your presentation.

You're already communicating.

Make sure what you're communicating is:

"I'm prepared, I'm confident, and you're in good hands."

Most remote workers are slowly turning into home appliances🤣🤣🤣

🔃Hit save now, you will need it.

I didn’t start on Upwork as a Top-Rated Executive Virtual Assistant.
I didn’t have premium clients waiting for me either.

What I had was a decision:
To treat freelancing like a business, not a side hustle.

Here’s what actually moved the needle for me 👇🏽

1️⃣ 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 “𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐕𝐀.”
High-paying clients aren’t hiring for tasks.
They’re paying for clarity, structure, and peace of mind.
Position yourself around outcomes, not to-do lists.

2️⃣ 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐔𝐩𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐕.
Clients don’t care about everything you’ve ever done.
They care about one thing:
👉 Do you understand my problem and can you solve it?

3️⃣ 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐬
When I leaned into Executive Assistance and operational support,
my rates increased, my confidence improved,
and the quality of clients I attracted changed.

4️⃣ 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐬.
Not every job is for you and that’s a good thing.
The more you focus on roles that truly match your skill set and expertise,
the more Upwork trusts your profile,
and the more the algorithm recommends you to the right clients.

5️⃣ 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭’𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞.
Talking about yourself won’t get you hired.
Clearly articulating the client’s pain point will.
This alone can separate you from 90% of applicants.

6️⃣ 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.
Great work + clear communication =
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reviews.

Client satisfaction is how Upwork measures performance.
Consistently deliver excellent work, manage expectations,
communicate proactively, and build trust, and it reflects directly in your Job Success Score.

7️⃣ 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 > 𝐡𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞.
Top-Rated freelancers use repeatable systems for:
• Proposals
• Client communication
• Delivery
• Feedback & reviews

That’s how great jobs turn into great ratings,
great reviews, and over time, the Top-Rated badge.

This is how I moved from “trying to get clients”
to becoming a trusted partner for founders and executives and why I now help other Virtual Assistants do the same.

Have a productive week ahead.
